I come here often and it's a hit or miss I wish they get it together because this place is not to far away from me and I love tamales and I'm starting to look elsewhere.

For my aunt's funeral service we had this food catered. These are the best tamales ever! Thank you very much. The beans, rice, and tamales were so delicious.

Long line (because of the Candelaria day) they should have had more people helping the one lady at the register. Shouldn't have to wait more than 15 minutes for tamales that are already made.

Update after waiting about 20 minutes to buy: tamales had little filling, lacked flavor and 1 of them the masa tasted burnt. I have been going there for years and it's changed.

Best tamales in San Diego. Refried beans, super good too. Bought 3 dozen for Christmas every year to bring to my parents house and every year always come home with nothing. Everyone loves them.

It was our first time to buy tamales at this place. We bought 6 beef and 6 corn only. The man who was working there told the other customer that she has to buy 1 pack of 6 of their choices. She cannot buy one of each to buy and try them. I was going to do the same. And it says there $2.49 each. How come they don’t sell each? That’s not right. We need to buy each first and try and then we decide if we want to buy more. It’s like we are force to buy 1 pack of 6 of each flavor. What if I want only 1 of each because I won’t be able to finish 6 of one flavor. What if I’m the only one who will eat? Please let us buy one of each since it says on the sign or menu $2.49 each.
By the way, beef and corn were delicious. I wanted to try all the flavors but the man insisted us to buy 6 (1 pack). This is not really right. They are being greedy to sell. And we need more sauce!

Good tamales, but they are so slooooow attending people, there was a long line, but it’s not about the people, it is because the persons attending inside don’t have any coordination with what are they doing.

The tamales are good, the bad thing they run out so quick but recommended.have to be a early bird to be able to get some.

1994 was the first time that my wife and I bought pork tamales from Ancira Tamales and they were absolutely the best tasting tamales that we had ever eaten. The tamales had just the right amount of pork meat and the tamales were not salty. However, now the pork tamales hardly have any meat to speak of and boy who ever mixes that masa for the tamales must be a salt freak because, the tamales tasted very salty the last time we bought tamales from Ancira Tamales. In the past I have always rated Ancira Tamales 5 Stars but the last time I can only rate Ancira Tamales 3 Stars. Fortunately, Ancira Tamales still has a good following, however, if Ancira continues to let their quality slide down their competition will eat Ancira's lunch.

Bought a dozen to take home. Only place I buy tamales in San Diego area for 32 years. I've tried other places before and even since, but others just do not come close in quality or taste.

They used to be my favorite tamales. But now, the chicken tamales have the smallest amount of chicken.

Fast service and quality tamales. If you call in advance they will let you know whether they have the tamales you are looking for. Their salsa is also very good. Only drawback might be the price per tamale but tamales are now expensive all over the place. Plus you get the quality you pay for. Be sure to call you order in ahead of tine so you don't have to wait. Also they are closed on Sundays.
