Teriyaki Dude, San Jose CA

If anyone can remember Ed's teriyaki gourmet this place is exactly like it. Wish i would have found this place earlier. I will definitely be back

We used to go to a place called Ed's Gourmet (Union and Curtner, then moved over by Santa Clara U) and missed going when it went out of business. I was looking for a good teriyaki place on the web and found out through reviews this is the new Ed's Gourmet which took me three years later after it opened on Monterey Highway. Great food as always, although the portions are a little smaller and the coleslaw isn't served with the chicken bowl anymore (miss that). GO GIVE IT TRY if you are the mood for some good tasting teriyaki bowls.

This place is the real deal: no-nonsense, quality teriyaki, not upscale or an afterthought to sushi. Teriyaki bowls, sandwiches, and burgers. No sushi. No stir fry.

We ordered take-out at the counter. Parking is easy. The strip mall location is a little run down but clean. The hand-lettered menu is quaint. The guy who took our order and cooked our food was super friendly. I felt completely at home.

We got the chicken bowl and beef bowl, not spicy. Protein was perfect. Chicken thigh tender and well trimmed, no hunks of gristle or fat. Beef was sliced sukiyaki-thin and tasty. Good proportion of protein to rice. Rice was perfect. Broccoli and carrot slices were nicely al dente. Even the presentation was tidy.

The teriyaki sauce was surprisingly complex, not just your usual sugar & salt bomb.

Prices are really good considering the quantity and quality of food.

I can't wait to go back.

Not many customers, tough running a restaurant during covid-19. Spicy teriyaki sauce very tasty.
