The French Gourmet reviews
20Nice outdoor seating area playing actual French music! They even brought over bread to have first, and this was for brunch. I was surprised at how good my eggs benedict was, and they were able to accommodate a couple of changes I wanted to make to the dish (hollandaise on the side, etc.) The eggs were some of the best I've had, and it was just overall very tasty. Our server was really nice.
Great way to start Father's Day. Excellent buffet, service and bossa nova music! Known for its amazing French deserts and especially pastries.and the coffee. Nummmmmm. Carlos and Keith played the gamut of quiet sensational Brazilian including Antonio Carlos Jobim's best.
A memorable time indeed!
This is a cute little spot with great food and a solid wine selection. They also have fresh pastries and bread available at a service counter. I have eaten both dinner and brunch here with great results. They even have great food to go.
I had French Gourmet cater my wedding this weekend. And it was phenomenal! Even better than the tasting we had months before and that was so good already. The food came out piping hot for all of the guests and the chicken and steak duo plate was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. All our guests raved about it. Renee Hirsh who is also employed there was also our wedding planner. She is a true pro and did so many special touches for us like putting plates of our cocktail appetizers at our dinner table because she knew we wouldn’t have time to eat them because we were busy taking pics and she was so right.
This is my favorite bakery in San Diego County. Pastries are so good! When in the area this is the place to go for temptation.
Simply put, The French Gourmet is the best! We worked with them for our wedding reception. From our initial inquiry to the day of our event they were kind, attentive, responsive, professional and wonderful to work with. They worked with us to create a menu that we loved and identify the type of service that best suited us. They did a formal walk through before the wedding to ensure all details were accounted for. The night of our wedding they were incredible. The entire staff was so professional, quick and kind to everyone at the event. They helped create a romantic and elegant environment through their food presentation and service. The food was absolutely delicious. Numerous guests made it a point to comment on how good the food was. They also worked very well with the many vendors that were part of our event. Weddings are so personal and special, The French Gourmet helped make our day memorable and wonderful! I would refer them to any person looking for delicious food and wonderful service, and give them my highest recommendation.
Cute and cozy French drinks and pastry. It is not bad and decent selection of sweet goodies. Nice quiet area too. Street Parking and not many available on occasion.
What a great small restaurant, we got it to go and sat at the chairs outside. Food was excellent, coffee and pastry was excellent.
Looking forward to my next visit.
Went to the French Gourmet to celebrate my friend’s birthday! Our food was absolutely delicious! The onion soup was incredible! The dressing on the salad and my egg croissant were prepared amazingly and served beautifully! Tony our server went above and beyond to help us and even sang Happy Birthday to us! Can’t wait to visit them again!
Delicious chicken pot pies and pastries. We love everything we get here, during our last visit ~3 weeks ago we noticed a great improvement in their service.
We went for San Diego Restaurant Week 2022. We always like to come back to this cozy little place. We always love ️ their food and great service. On this time there was a fixed price menu due to the SDRW, but with their best dishes, so it is a good deal to try it. They also have a bakery so you can buy your favorite desserts to take home. We always come back and we usually do on special occasions, since we know we'll have a great experience.
The French Gourmet is by far one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. The food was prepared to perfection, the atmosphere is attractive and inviting, and the staff was extremely considerate. Our Waiter, Tony, anticipated our needs before we even asked, and he was so thoughtful and personable. He made us feel more like old friends than customers. This was my first visit to The French Gourmet, but will by no means be my last. Bravissimo!
We purchased pastries from the bakery and also ate in the restaurant. The pastries were delicious with the exception of the macrons. They were too sweet and weren't nearly as good as you would get in Paris. We bought 10 and didn't eat all of them - and we love macrons.
The restaurant was a lovely experience. The staff were relaxed and friendly, totally giving a sense of "settle in and enjoy yourself". The beet/pear salad (which was new to the menu) was a huge hit. I can't tell you the last time I had a salad that I raved about. We had the carpaccio as an appetizer, which was quite nice. My husband had the flatiron steak. He really enjoyed it. I ordered the rack of lamb, which was quite good. Both plates had very generous servings. We didn't have desert. When in San Diego, we will definitely be back.
Best custard and chocolate chip croissants! The softest, they melt in your mouth! Loved their stall at the farmers market!
Great food, great bread, great pastries, great ambiance, great service. Michel is friendly, genuine, and has knocked French cuisine out of the park. The years of top awards says it all.
I ordered the Valentine’s Special TO-GO Dinner and was so happy I did! It was truly one of the best meal experiences ever. I ordered the New Orleans Crab Cake (needs to be heated for 8-10 minutes) and Shrimp Cocktail Salad for the appetizer. My boyfriend and I split each item and had a perfect serving for 2.
Next were our entries. I had the Salmon Filet Matelote and my boyfriend had the Grilled Beef Filet Mignon. Both were served with vegetables and Potatoes au Gratin. Each of our entries needed to be heated for 20 minutes so after I heated the crab cake, the main entries went in the oven and it was perfectly timed. Everything was partially cooked, so it just needed to be heated and cooked slightly.
The salmon was by far the best tasting salmon we’ve ever eaten. The taste was so delicious. And my boyfriends filet mignon was also perfect. Not one item tasted reheated. They all were just like being served at a restaurant.
And I’ve saved the best for last! We had a heart shaped pralinski chocolate cake that was so delicious we both wanted more! We literally pigged out on the cake.
I was so glad we stayed home and heated this meal. It was the best Valentine’s dinner ever!
Thank you French Gourmet!
Great little place for brunch! We all got the French toast and we all loved it. The three of us also split a bottle of champagne and got orange and pineapple juice to make our own mimosas at the table. It was all delicious and their outside dining area is cute and cozy with comfortable chairs. I didn’t take any pastries home, but next time I will!
Bought from them at the Hillcrest Farmer's Market. 1 baguette and 2 croissants $15 explains why they did not show any price.the croissants were good but not that $$$ good and the baguette was like a $1.50 supermarket baguette. Very disappointing
Great Escargot!
Salads were great. I wish I had ordered the flat iron steak, my friend's was great. If you are going to go make sure to order something you wouldn't make at home. The chicken was so so. I should have gone with duck. We weren't told the specials, heard them told to the table next to us and I would have gone with one of those as well but we had already put our order in.
But got to cut restaurant slack now you know they're running on lower staff and great chef turnover.
But it was nice to be in somewhere that seemed pretty busy at least.
Our wedding cake was amazing! This place has delicious cakes and creative decorations. We had raspberry bagatelle for two layers, and one of pralinkso (dark choc hazelnut). Buttercream icing was perfect. They're so busy but for a good reason - this is a quality bakery! I'd highly recommend them for wedding cakes. Thank you team! ️
