Great food, amazing beer list. Way too noisy but I'll put up with it for their fried chicken sandwich.

2023 update: It gives me no pleasure to say that the food has gone downhill a bit. In particular, a salad was full of greens that had gone brown. The draft list is still strong though.

A great place to sit outdoors on a warm day, or enjoy the cosy dining room when it's chilly outside. The draft list changes quite frequently - what I like is that they always have a good mix of IPAs, porters, stouts, sours, Belgian-styles, etc. Something for everybody. Large selection of beers by the bottle as well, and you get a discount if you buy a bottle to go. The food menu is also very well done (get the fries and chicken sandwich!), although I wish they'd change that more often.

Huge beer selection! They have something for everyone. The food was ok, but not the reason to come. The burger was overcooked (we ordered medium rare but got well done). The brussel sprouts were completely covered in a sugar mixture, which could be ok if you were expecting it, but i was expecting a savory dish. We were able to get a 645 reservation by booking that morning, and the place was full when we got there.

Great beers selection, great food, great people.

We wanted to grab a late night bite on our way home from a day of being tourists and stumbled upon this place. We could not have been happier.

This is a great place to grab a late night comfort food meal and a night cap. The place has tons of charm, clean bathrooms, and the staff are very patient and nice.

Don't fear if it seems far, it was a short walk from the bus station the took us up to mission and 18th from the end of the pier area.

Quite a European-centric beer menu but loads of great stuff. Great burgers and other food as well!

Super rude guys Food is great but service nothing to look forward to. It was raining and the place was half empty but they just wanted to kick us out

Service was pretty brutally slow. Nice guys though! Good beer selection. KILLER pretzel cheese dip.

The food is amazing here and the service is some of the best. They have an awesome menu selection and the service staff are the best.

Great food. Good selection of beers and cocktails. The seating situation isn't exactly great due to it being small but I think anyone that goes will not be disappointed.

We’re tourists and we were sat at the corner of the bar by the guy working the door…no problem. Beer selection is good, but I also know that as a bar owner, reviews don’t get attention unless they are polarized. 20 min in and another staff member walked by muttering something about how I was seated saying “this isn’t how we do things here”. I’m assuming it’s because I was a bit in the way of the entrance, but again, it’s exactly where the guy working the door told us to sit.

Hey I get it…we own bars and have to deal with similar situations daily, but truth be told, the sarcastic way he said it seemed unnecessary considering this is where we were told to sit. Maybe learn a bit of tact and politely suggest I move my seat. Or maybe check with your colleague that is seating guests before you imply it’s the customer that is wrong. We were intending to stay for another round, but this guy kinda soured the experience.

Update

As we were paying, the team member did come over and apologize. Definitely appreciate that and would be happy to return.

The Mission Fried Chicken is among the best fried chicken around. The mashed potatoes arebfine enough but the greens that come with it are barely edible because of the EXCESSIVE saltiness and ruin the idea of a complete meal. At that price point, edible sides matter.

I can’t thank you all enough for being so kind, compassionate, and accommodating. The beer was fantastic. The food was excellent (those brussel sprouts!). But the secret ingredient was YOU. You all paved the way for a truly special night with dear friends who we hadn’t seen in nearly two years.

You never know what other people are going through. Our friends just endured a heartbreaking year of loss. This was the night their hearts needed (ours, too), and The Monk’s Kettle staff made it happen. Thank you all for being so kind. Thank you for accommodating our unexpected request for a larger table. Thank you for tolerating our nonstop laughter. We no longer live in San Francisco, but you can be sure that we’ll now pay you a visit whenever we’re in town.
