The Smoothbar, San Diego CA

I had my hair done by Leanne one time and it was fantastic, probably the best keratin/blowout I'd had. I kept getting calls to come back in, but it really didn't need it and I waited four months before going back.

The next time I went in, she recommended a different product but I asked for the same thing as the first time. Something was off during my appointment, but since you can't wash your hair right away, I didn't know that there was a problem. Once I washed my hair it was totally straight (which I didn't want and has very specifically said I wanted to keep some curl) but also it was not shiny at all, very dull and frizzy. The absolute trifecta I don't want for my hair.

I called and was told to wash it more frequently to wash it out. I got my hair cut maybe a month in and my usual stylist was stunned and could not believe the bad condition/look of my hair.

I called a couple of months in to talk to someone about what I could do, and they offered to do a conditioning treatment which would last for 12 shampoos, which is only a couple of weeks, but I tried it. Maybe it helped a little bit with shine, but my hair was completely straight in parts, curly in parts and frizzy all over.

Every time I spoke with someone there they said I had the exact same treatment as the first time. When I asked what that was they could not tell me, and they never let me speak to Leanne.

Because they kept referring to my treatment being the same as the first time, I asked what exactly that was, so I could go somewhere to get this fixed. They wouldn't tell me. Said I had to only speak to the owner, who was out of town, and once back, didn't respond to my messages at first. After multiple requests so said they had processed my hair with 10 passes. I have never had 10 passes with a straightening iron in any of the treatments I've had done in the 6 or 7 years I've been doing thing. I believe they just didn't know, but it was their standard reply to say it was the same as the first time.

Really disappointed they would not help me figure out what to do. After 6 months cutting my hair frequently, I had it done somewhere else, but the ends that had been treated at the Smoothbar were never normal. I think they should have just done something more to help fix the situation.

If you want to keep some curls, I can not recommend this place. I had over 6 months of really messed up hair, and they didn't really seem to want to do anything to help.

What can I say about the Smootbar to give them justice! The most welcoming, professional, nice, above and beyond owner and staff. I love this place so much to the point I don’t live in San Diego any more yet I fly 3hrs out there to get my hair done.
Don’t even think twice go there and you will never go anywhere else after that.

My hair is normally a curly messy puff ball. I got the Brazilian renewal and it has absolutely made my hair 1000% times more manageable. I don't have a picture of the natural curl, but the first photo is of my hair blow dried, then straightened, then in a French braid. The second photo is after I got the treatment done and just let it air dry! I always hate when people show an after photo from right after the salon and not the first wash, since the product is straightened into your hair, of course it's going to look stick straight when you leave. Love love love the outcome!

Maribel always does such an incredible job on my hair. I always walk out feeling like a million bucks. It's so nice to have smooth, frizz-free, shiny hair even with all this recent humidity. Highly recommend!

Best keratin/Brazilian blowout service I've ever gotten. I am a regular here. I've been to other places for this, for the past decade, and Smoothbar is best. This is because they customize your service to what you want, it lasts long, it's a friendly/nice atmosphere, and it's an enjoyable experience (even if you have to sit for a few hours getting it done!). Thank you Smoothbar, for changing my relationship with my hair to a positive one:)

LeeAnne did an amazing job! This was my first treatment, and I was a little nervous, but she provided her recommendations based on my hair goals and then walked me through the process. My hair has never felt more soft and smooth, and air dried as if I just blew it out. The studio is also super cute and everyone is really nice

I love this place. Anna and Hailey were very friendly and informative and what kind of treatment was needed and to work best with my hair. I'm very picky when it comes to someone touching my hair since I'm growing it out again. So it was great to find someone I can trust.

I love the Chocolate Keratin treatment. It makes my hair soft for months and saves me money on blowouts. My hair air drys beautifully. I also love the shampoo and conditioner recommended to me by the Smoothbar. Leaf & Flower is my new favorite.

Kristen did a PHENOMENAL job with my hair. I was freaking out that my hair would be fried from the treatment because my hair was bleached by a not-so-great hair coloring I had done a month prior. She reassured me that the treatment plan she did would really help my hair -and she was so right! My boyfriend couldn't believe my new hair so I kept the straight hair post treatment for about 4 days. When I finally rinsed it out, I was oh so relieved and happy to see my healthy, beachy, and frizz free hair straight out of the shower. No more hair dryer! My hair feels so much healthier now. I finally love my hair again and this is going to save me HOURS of styling and heat damage!
