Thank You The Vincent for taking such great care of my grandmother. From the first time when we came in Lucy really made my parents feel this is the place where my grandma would enjoy living. She was living at home and was feeling lonely and sad all the time. The team at The Vincent has made a great effort in getting her out and about. The Chef has been incredible my grandma loves going for meals, she came from cooking for a big family so good is a huge part of her life. Thank You

I worked at Oakmont as a private aid to a family who felt their father was being neglected. He was. Most likely still is. Unfortunately, the problems are so numerous, I had to quit.
The facility looks nice, and the people who work there are nice too. Lot’s of diversity.
However, the way they have things set up, at least downstairs in the memory care unit, it is so convoluted and confusing, I’m not sure anyone could give good care!
If you have the ability, and stealth to figure out who your aide is (which I think is a big problem), good luck getting help, because she’s most likely too busy folding clothes and doing dishes.
The resident’s aides are responsible for washing, folding and putting laundry away. What do you think gets ignored when the laundry needs to be done before the shift is over?
The resident is offered a shower on a weekly basis, if the resident refuses a shower at that time, for my resident anyway, there wasn’t another plan to shower that person until the following week. In our case, the children became responsible for the showering and grooming their parent.
Food… It looks very nice and there is a chef who prepares tasty food. But it’s very low protein, lots of carbs and no real system for knowing weather the resident has eaten or not, except a check mark that’s doesn’t seem to be carefully considered. Some days there aren’t any check marks for anyone. Very little supervision happens in the dining room because the aids are so busy being food servers and bussing tables. At least, 90% of the time, my client’s food order was wrong, or there was a problem with the tables, or somebody was touching my clients food.
My client has lost well over 50 lbs in the 6 months there.
My job was to help this very vulnerable person! Private care. Unfortunately, I wasn’t given enough hours to be effective, I wasn’t paid fairly by the family…maybe that’s because their annual cost at Oakmont is almost 1/4 million dollars? And they’re desperate. But they knew they had put me into a nightmare situation, yet as long as they got theirs, they didn’t care much if I got a fair amount of mine!
Truly, I wish I could have afforded to stay with that family.
The administrator was very open to my comments, all very nice, but she cut me off after I had reported the incident that led up to my quitting. I’m the first to admit I get frazzled in the face of neglect, and avoidable hardship, at least I don’t shut down!
Hopefully, these problems are due to the newness of this facility, but based on what I saw, I don’t think anybody there wants to face the facts. I think the administration wants to believe they’re doing a good job and maybe they are, as I am not sure where the fractures occur within their system. I only know what I saw and experienced.
I absolutely swear, that the people who hired me, the children, were living in a nightmare because of Oakmont San Rafael.
I tried to open up a dialogue with the administrator to tell her what I saw, as she knows I have the skills, knowledge, experience, 55 + years living in this community, 48 years as caregiver, administrator etc…to offer at least something to help her residents, yet her method was to bar me from the facility. Even though, I was never rude or inappropriate. In fact, I had to teach the facility that very confused residents shouldn't be allowed to dice apples in their hands. I mean what are you paying for, if it’s not to have your family member protected!? !
I have no intention on retaliating, but I do think an honest review is in order. Also, I’m willing to admit I am fallible…but I know what neglect is, and I know how inadequately trained, overly worked caregiver’s give care.
There are a few very good caregivers at Oakmont, but the systems are so broken, those people are mostly scrambling to get their work done. It got to the point where I was afraid to ask for help, because the one or two knowledgeable caregivers are so overburdened!
Please note, I would hire anyone who works at Oakmont, as even though the systems are broken, the people are great!
