Fantastic staff. Great rooms and amenities. Lastly, the location of the Westin St. Francis is perfect.

This Historical icon was a pleasure to stay in even with Covid Protocols. A snack bar open which was a HUGE help, excellent staff and a fantastic room in the Tower for a competitive room rate.

Beautiful hotel, stunning views. Amazing hotel service.easily accessible towards transit, shopping, and more. The outside elevators are also an experience in itself, viewing the city and the ocean.

Iconic and historic 4 star hotel in the best location of SF downtown with beautiful views. Highly recommended.

We're staying in the tower which is new for me. Normally I stay in the historic building and know what to expect. The room is clean as expected but a bit dated. On the Bonvoy app I'd requested additional blankets and foam pillows which weren't in the room when we checked in. I also asked for additional towels and toiletries and I don't want the room serviced when we're in residence. None of this was on the room. So either the request function on the app is faulty or someone on-site missed the request. Other than that we have a stunning view of the city and Union Square.

I really enjoyed the lobby and upon reading the history of the hotel I felt I had stepped inside history itself. I do hope to visit again after Covid to visit the famed Oak Room restaurant.
I'd love to share more detail however its been a few weeks since my visit. I do have these pics to share.enjoy your stay

I stayed 2 nights at The Westin. The hotel staff were all very friendly and made you feel nice being there in my experience. The room itself was average for a hotel, with a pretty nice tub/shower. The TV has Netflix built-in, which is a great plus. They also have little things like coffee and tea and lavender oil to help you fall asleep. It's truly right there by Union Square and a great place is you can get a good deal on the price to stay if you want to get a good SF experience. There are A TON of things you can do around the area if you stay here, which is the main appeal. I would stay here again if the rooms were still on a nice deal.

Have stayed here a few times.
The PROS
The tower facing Union Square has some nice views.

The gym is big and has everything you need from cardio machines, free weights, yoga mats, foam rollers, water, towels, and wipes for cleaning machines if need be.

Breakfast was included due to my status. Not a brag, just a tip to accept this offer as the continental breakfast at the very nice restaurant on the first floor has a great variety of pastries, fruit, cereal, eggs, etc.

Rooms in the tower are newer and the beds are very comfortable

Location is great because it is very central with a lot of options for shopping and eating.

The only CON I would say is the front desk staff was slow and not staffed up to deal with a handful of people checking in. A little inconvenient after a long flight but not the end of the world. I don’t mind waiting but it was evident that they were not well staffed for the size of the hotel. One person is not enough.

As a local it's fun to go to hotel bars in the area as an almost staycation. The clock bar at the St regis is the perfect place to do this. It's definitely pricey but the service is impeccable.

Summary: the service was exquisite. Every employee was friendly and willing to assist you. As you check in, they offer you water and ask you personal questions in an attempt to soften the mood and bring customer service back to what its meant to be, about you. However, the stay was not perfect and hence the reason for fewer stars.

Check-in: amazing, fast, and I felt welcomed and unique. They have really nailed it on the head with their employee training and ambiance for the check-in process.

Atmosphere: as it was the holiday season, Christmas tress, Santa, and lots of lights adorned the multiple lobbies and public areas and brought a special feeling to the stay which I appreciated. Its a historic hotel in a perfect location, so everything works perfectly together.

The Room: it was just the right size. The closet and desk are in a nook while the bed has ample space around all 3 sides. A small sitting chair and a tv and dresser adorn the opposite side. The window was facing away from union square but towards the Westfield shopping mall, so it was still a desirable skyline. The bathroom tub was small and outdated but overall it was a nicely appointed bathroom, but the sink was very small.

The Bed: heavenly, not much else to say but clean and comfy.

The Cons: the bathtub did not drain properly so we stood in water during our shower, but for a one night stay I decided not to trouble them with it while we were in the room so I let them know as we checked out. The stickers on the bathroom mirror were peeling off, which I felt should be removed or replaced once they get to that point. The really major issue (as the prior things are all minor) was the noise, we could hear everything in the room next door and they decided to have about 12 guests over in their small room for about 4 hours. We had to go down stairs and security had to approach them. However, they still continued to have loud conversations and make a fuss till way past midnight.

In the end: it is the perfect location and feels charming but if the walls are too thin it makes it hard to want to stay at this location again, I believe it came through the adjoining door as we could not hear that much coming from the halls. For this reason, I have given it a 4 star rating, most hotels would probably get 3 stars but the location, service and ambiance make up for the noise.

Booked a room well in advance for the day after Thanksgiving this year. To start, the hotel didn't bother to notify guests to plan ahead for street closures nor did they come clean to tell guests that their staff would be on strike. Minimizing risk of cancellations I suppose. Profit over customer experience. It took over 2 hours to get close enough to the hotel to walk (thanks to a kind SFPD officer who found me a spot and who also said hotels should be notifying guests of the street closures). I had to walk back though (about
3 blocks) after the tree lighting to get my car to bring over to the hotel. Once checked in, we learned that there was no room service because of the strike. Not fun with a hungry 6 and 9 year old. I went down to the lobby cafe to try to find something for the kids and maybe Irish Coffees for me and my equally frustrated wife. I got in line and waited for about 15 minutes. A second line had started to form shortly after I got in line to my left but I thought that was just for the desserts and pastries. When I got to the cashier she told me that I now had to get in the other line to order which had now grown about 7
-8 people deep. I threw my hands up and left. My wife tried again later with better luck, albeit a long wait but she had to explain to them how to make an Irish Coffee. Oh and by the way, the striking staff was banging drums till about 10pm, kicking off again at 7
am. I was so frustrated I uncharacteristically tweeted my frustration. To their credit they messaged me and told me staff would contact me. I was just going through my DMs and saw that message. It's Christmas. No one's contacted me. Disappointed in this place. It was becoming a regular spot for the holidays for us.until this year.

This Westin has lost it's glory. When I visited in early December '18, the hotel staff was on strike right outside the entrance. What this meant was there was no room service, maintenance of the building and common areas was appalling (dirt thrown in corridors and lights not working) and broken plumbing. I spent 3 nights in a room where the shower was not working and they couldn't shift me to another room either!

There are much better options in the area than this Westin. The area itself is in a bad state with homeless people, plenty of druggies and shifty characters on the streets. Be careful.

Very small bar with not a lot of space. Cocktails are fantastic though and should definitely stop by if you are in the area.

I stayed here during the recent worker strike. I would recommend not to stay here at least till the strike situation gets sorted out. You will probably get woken up at 7: 15 am because of the noise of workers striking. In addition they also have fewer services available like no in-room dining because of the worker strike.

Update: it only got worse. They couldn't even deliver some basic requested cutlery like spoons/forks even half an hour after they said they would.

I attended a conference while the empmoyee strike was ongoing. It was short-staffed and behind schedule. The catering was average as well. The architecture and building are beauriful. I did not stay in the hotel.

Renovated rooms are beautiful, but can vary greatly in size. My room was the size of a closet, but my coworkers room which was the same price and same style was double the size.

One of the large and historic (one of several in the city) hotels in the city that is located right in the center of the touristy part of the city, in front of Union Square. The theater district and Chinatown is also close by. There is even a cable car line in front of the front door. A little pricey but accounting for all the time you can save just getting around, it’s a great location.

The hotel was nice, great for a conference venue. Fantastic lighting. However, while I was there, roughly 50-60 people were on strike and it was really troubling to think that the Westin does not pay its housekeeping staff a living wage.
