Sushi Restaurant Umi reviews
17 So disappointing. This place has been a neighborhood staple for many years - I've been going here for somewhere around 20 years.like everything, though - it seems it was disrupted by the pandemic, so when we got parking on 18th Street (amazing) we decided to pop in and enjoy some nice Japanese food from a reliable vendor. Didn't turn out that way AT ALL. The rolls were.average at best. I ordered a bento box - the teriyaki chicken was lightly coated with a syrupy sauce that tasted nothing at all like teriyaki - and what it DID taste like was pretty nasty. The tempura vegetables looked great, though - so I dove right in after decided to skip the chicken.
First piece: sweet potato. I hate sweet potato.
2nd piece: sweet potato
3rd piece: sweet potato. (seeing a pattern here?)
I got all the way to the 10th (and last) piece before I got something that wasn't sweet potato. Couldn't tell you what it was, though. Not the place that's been there for years - and won't be going back.
$80 for a bowl of rice, some miso soup and some very average rolls. Shameful.
Best miso soup ever. Wow. Got the bento box with teriyaki chicken and avocado/cucumber rolls bc that's what I was craving, but I look forward to returning with others and exploring the fabulous menu further.
Great & simple food, sweet staff! The miso eggplant is out of this world! Thanks for a great meal, Umi!
High quality fish, fast service and friendly staff. The agedashi tofu was warm and had the right texture balance. Would come back here for lunch!
Took over an hour and a half for some basic rolls and the worst part was the food wasn’t even good, alaskan roll had some mystery fish that wasn’t salmon and the miso soup was watered down, the hand rolls were poorly made as well.
Great place tucked away in Portreo Hill. The food here was great and looking forward to our next visit.
Umi is one of our favorite local spots for sushi and nigiri with a low key atmosphere and a fantastic menu. This restaurant is a hidden gem and consistently serves excellent food and a variety of quality Sake.
Umi has sushi I have never had like ume shiso which is pickled plum and shiso leaf and I had to get another order after eating the first. Their agedashi tofu is the best thing on a cold day and I always get this when I go there.
Highly recommend this restaurant for unique sushi I haven’t eaten elsewhere and delicious non-sushi dishes as well.
And they were accommodating of my small dog in their outdoor patio so I will be coming here often.
Had a lovely time at Umi with my husband and friends. The sushi rolls are simply delicious.
Love the inside/outside patio. Food is excellent. Like the agedashi tofu. Creamy and crispy. Swift friendly service.
The BEST SUSHI I’ve had in my life!
New level of appreciation for sashimi!
Wow! 100% recommend
Wonderful neighborhood sushi place. Had some of the best agedashi tofu and temaki I've had. The staff was very considerate and welcoming. Glad to have this place nearby!
Traditional Japanese style sushi only serving sustainable fish. Responsible and delicious. One of the very sushi experiences like eating in Japan. Wonderful staff.
Disappointing is the kindest way to describe their cuisine. Way overpriced for the quality of food. Miso soup was very salty and the sushi was average, but overpriced at $14. Overall nice service, but would not recommend going. Reviews are a bit misleading, I would suggest going to other local sushi restaurants.
Great spot for sushi! Definitely recommend a reservation for dinner, especially on the weekends. If you're in the neighborhood early theres a great bar next door with an outstanding view of the Bay bridge. Terrific date night night spot.
Great place for sushi and sashimi where the fish is always fresh and the service is attentive.
