This review discusses the USPS arcane policies and treatment of lost shipments, not the hard working individuals at the Davis office.

A quick summary of the USPS Financial status: Nearly defunct. Postmaster DeJoy's words about their financial condition was 'dire. ' In the past 2 years they have posted losses approaching $15 Billion USD. Ergo, DO NOT DO BUSINESS with a business that is looking for ways to cut corners, & increase your costs of doing business with them. Use FedEX and UPS and their insured services and at least you'll have peace of mind when shipping valuables.

The USPS lost my prescription sunglasses that were additionally insured when they were shipped priority mail. The final insurance claim paid out was 10% of the value and the receipts I registered in my claim. Appeals were denied, as I was told. 'that's what the USPS values your item at. ' You have no recourse when they use a secret valuation table, and then you receive pennies on the dollar of your lost valuables. Paying EXTRA for insurance does nothing, they'll still devalue your item.

The result is I'm totally out of pocket for new expensive glasses and the USPS didn't even issue an apology, let alone honor the insurance that was purchased. USE UPS AND FEDEX and let the USPS go down in bankruptcy.

It’s a post office, same as the hundred of others around. The paintings around the place of how Davis used to look in another era give the place a sense of community and as one was walking into a small gallery. For the most part, service has always been great for me. Hours of operation for the public could be improved, though.

Thank you to the lady who helped me today (New Year's eve) to find a package that wasn't scanned on Monday 12/27.it was my fault, the label wasn't readible, but she took the time to go find it. Great customer service!

THE CONTENTS OF MY PACKAGE WAS STOLEN! Over $120 worth. I received an empty box. This USPS does not pick up the phone.

The manager dont do anything. Legit sit there looking around for an hour and tell you your package is not here even it shows held at post office.

Usually an excellent location to drop off your packages, but there are a few staff at this particular location who won't even attempt to put on a facade of helpfulness. These particular individuals really should not be working in any kind of customer service capacity. Most of the staff are, however, very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable, and my packages are always sent out expeditiously, so ultimately the review is 4/5.

I like a few of the staff that work here and are pretty helpful. The rest are clueless. Their drivers consistently lose packages or deliver to the wrong box. I had a registered envelope coming in and the genius mail man decided to leave me a note so I can pick it up at the office. It has been 3 weeks and no one can locate it. If you were going to lose it, it had a better chance of surviving if you had just left it on my porch. This has been happening a lot lately in Davis which should be investigated

Prior to Covid this could have been 4-5 stars

But recently I've had really poor experiences here.

I normally have pre paid packages from mercari. I drop them off in the mail box outside, very convenient (especially with Covid) to not need to get out of the car / touch anything / interact with people

Previously if I dropped packages off before 5 they would be scanned later that night. If I did a late night drop off they'd be scanned the next day.

Recently it's been taking on average 4 days to scan an item in as received. This has caused buyers to accuse me of not shipping on time.

Most recently I dropped an item off on a Monday, many days past and the buyer contacted me to ask why I hadn’t shipped, alarm bells ** I track it and it says usps still haven’t received the item on Saturday! The following Monday it still hadn’t been scanned, I went in to the mail office as email agents were not helpful, explained the situation to the guy at the desk. He told me it depends on the company that it’s shipped with and when they decide to scan it. I remind him that the item was prepaid with USPS so that company I’m waiting on is USPS and this is the office it was dropped at. He basically shrugged and said maybe the guy in the mail room could help. The man that answered the mail room door was much nicer, much more sympathetic but had no answers, he offered advise explained how things are processed and how if sometimes things get mailed and aren’t scanned etc. He was much more helpful that the clerks behind the counters.

The following Wednesday it finally got marked “accepted in Davis” - given the first scan happened in Davis it appears the package was just sitting there for over a week.

I understand the huge political / funding issues going on currently but it's sad that basic collection of parcels is no longer happening. I really hope they get the funding they need.

My advice if you want to make sure something gets where it needs to be right now - and the mail room mans advice, if you’re mailing something don’t drop it off in the boxes in the lobby or outside. Go inside and ask a clerk to scan it in and give your proof it was dropped off. I did this with a package and it was scanned later that night.
