Vesuvio Restaurant reviews
19I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars! We started with their famous grilled artichoke appetizer (the first time I have ever had artichokes) which came with a delicious dipping sauce that I couldn't place but was just the right addition to this unique vegetable. We then had to try the white truffle wood-fired pizza because it sounded so interesting. Pizza is my favorite food and I will say that this was one of the best pizzas I have ever had! The flavors blended so well we could not stop eating, even though we still had ravioli ossobucco and chicken parm, which were also spectacular! I cannot say enough about this experience. We will absolutely return here next time we come back to Carmel.
I loved the atmosphere and the rooftop bar is great but it's a bit of a hike up two sets of stairs.
Our server was exceptional and I thought the food was good but I've had better Italian food.
I'm giving 4 stars for the food, pricey for what you receive but I'm definitely going back to this spot.
Went here while on a work trip and got served a few drinks on the rooftop bar from Christan. He went above and beyond, suggesting drinks and was super friendly. We will definitely return. Thanks Christan!
We had a great time at the rooftop bar during the happy hour. The cocktails were well balanced and strong and the pizza and burgers were both delicious. The only downside was that our food took a very long time but the wait staff was very nice and did their best to remedy the issue. I would definitely go again for happy hour!
Pizza here may look great, but don't taste anything you'd expect from italian food though.
Burrata was almost liquid with no taste, tomato sauce also.
You can eat here when hungry but I wouldn't recommand.
I found the same taste in frozen supermarket pizza (great ones)
Then it's a little expensive (23$ for each pizza which are one people sized)
UPDATE 7.23.22: My wife and I decided to enjoy a "proper" meal at Vesuvio's during our latest stay in Carmel. We made reservations the day before and when we arrived for our reservation, we were warmly greeted and seated quickly. I noticed throughout our meal that there was a long line of folks waiting to be seated, so it's probably a good idea to make reservations to avoid a long wait.
We started off with a glass each of Vesuvio's branded wine, the Pepe Vesuvio. And as we really enjoyed the Truffled Gnocchi appetizer during our previous visit to their Starlight Rooftop Terrace Lounge, we had to order this delight again. We also added an order of 4 Meatball Lollipops; this dish is basically Vesuvio's meatballs on a skewer in marinara. Both the gnocchi and meatballs were delicious. My wife ordered the Pacific Northwest Salmon which the waiter had mentioned was caught locally. The salmon came with couscous and grilled asparagus and had a lovely lemon-caper sauce. I had a nibble and it was tender and flavorful. I ordered the Sgt. Pepe's 1944 meat lasagna which is a family recipe. It was a nicely-sized chunk of lasagna, a la carte. It was "heavy" as I expected but very good. It was large enough that I only at about half and saved the rest for later.
Finally, we ordered and shared a Creme Brulee. Just a lovely visit with good service. Prices are moderate.
We sat up top on the open-air deck for appetizers and wine. It was quite a lively scene for a Monday night. The upper deck has a number of firepits and heaters to keep everyone warm. We enjoyed a glass of house Cab each and ordered a couple of appetizers: Truffled Gnocchi and Calamari Fritti. The Gnocchi was baked in a flavorful sauce with truffle oil and parmigiano. The calamari consisted of tubes and tentacles and came with flavorful chipotle aioli dip. My wife ordered the crab bisque soup which we also shared. Service was a bit spotty but the food was excellent.
We got a table instantly, which is probably the only positive thing I can say for tonight. There was no service for the next 20 minutes. I had to ask the girl at the front to make sure someone would stop by to take our orders. When the waiter finally showed up, he probably felt my frustration. Taking orders only took a minute because we had been staring at the menu for so long. After food was presented, he disappeared until the end of the meal. I had to again go to front to pay the bill. What made the night even worse was the lady behind us complain about immigration with F word in every sentence, loudly. There were at least two parties with kids, including mine. Can’t believe I experience this in California.
We got into town late and were scrambling to find something to eat. Everywhere was closed and we thought we were out of luck. They got us in and stayed open later just for us. Life-saving. We really appreciate it.
Man I got that clam soup and there was mud in the shells man got to clean those out properly yo. Me and my mom had to represent and to think about my papa they used to go there all the time spend money there and I was disappointed. I'll come by today and get a free meal or same exact thing and that'll make it square
Great tasting pizza. And the service was awesome, friendly and on it. We made a reservation and then went upstairs to wait and the young lady remembered and came and got us when our time was up to be served. Very quiet ambience. Light is dimmed in some parts of the restaurant for a romantic experience and others are well lit for a family experience. The upstairs is more of a cocktail / party place and it is outdoors.
Overall great experience and great tasting food. Prices are fair.
Love coming to this place every visit to Carmel/ Monterey.
Great service! Love the rooftop- heaters, fire pit tables, ample seating. Baby back ribs and meatballs.can't go wrong.
All the staff are great because they all work hard and/or provide excellent customer service to all customers in order to give them an experience. ️
Wonderful service, delicious food, awesome after dinner drinks, and took home a beautiful and delicious dessert. Great way to spend our 30th anniversary.
We walked over to have dinner with some friends that were visiting from out of town. We were very lucky to get a reservation at 7: 15 PM despite calling in at the very last minute. The food selection was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. Service was prompt and friendly.the wine selection is excellent.
Everything about our experience was exceptional.service, food, ambiance. Pizza is a must! Special shout out to the hostess, Nellie, and our server, Serge! You both are awesome! We will not wait another 20 years to go back. See you in October!?
Knowing that Vesuvio is operated by the team that runs Little Napoli, we decided to try it out this evening. Much of the menu is the same in both locations. We ordered an Aperol spritz and a limoncello spritz. Both for excellent. We shared the arrancini appetizer, a Caesar salad, and a pizza that had prosciutto and arugula on it. All the food was very good. We appreciate how the Caesar salad was split for two people, and each plate had one perfect anchovy on it-meaty with just the right amount of saltiness. The pizza was excellent with a fantastic Neopolitan crust, lovely prosciutto, and not too much cheese. The serving size could be an entree for one person. We even enjoyed the San Benedetto sparkling water. This location has a different feel. It is larger and has more elbow space and a bit more formal. The server was friendly and efficient. We appreciate attention but not too much attention. We will definitely be back.
Fantastic food, atmosphere and staff. Can highly recommend this. Have Mama's garlic bread and babyback ribs for starters (yes ribs in an Italian resturant) you will not be sorry. Main we had meatballs and chiken from the wood burner
Rooftop bar, happy hour, tasty small plates of real food, plus cozy seating at low tables and a few high tables, surrounded by trees, vines, and flowers! Delicious ribs, a real homemade GLUTEN-FREE white pizza were especially tasty. Eclectic crowd. Great service. Will return often.
Went for my one year anniversary because we'd eaten there on our honeymoon. The place was as great as I remembered. We sat on the rooftop lounge, it was a little windy but where isn't in carmel. Drinks were great, they even made one that wasn't on the menu when I asked. The food was amazing. The servers were on the ball. And my wife suprised me by having them play our wedding song so we could dance. I'd recommend this place to any and everyone.
