Castle Vikingsholm reviews
16Very beautiful castle with lots of history.must go and see for yourself. I really recommend it for a great adventure
We attended a fund raiser, it was fantastic with an opportunity to view the home without a large crowd. The view and drive down was breath takingly beautiful!
Amazing place to hike or boat into. The visitors center tells the whole story of the home and the beach, waterfalls, and lake tell all the stories your soul needs. From the Vikingsholm house it's less than a. 25 mile walk/hike to a cool bridge to see Lower Eagle Falls. This is if you boat in.
Summer weekdays are way less crowded than weekends.
First time at the beach there. The cedar trees were wonderful to look at. As well as the other tree which I can't remember the name right now.
It's worth taking the tour of the home. It's a beautiful setting. Great place to take pictures and visit the beach.
Beautiful area to visit! Nice semi secluded beach access. We hiked down the 1 mile trail, which was nice and easy on the way down. You are rewarded with a dock and beach area when you reach the bottom. There is also a "castle" style mansion known as Vikingsholm. They do daily tours, we were unable to attend as it didn't start until 1030 am, where you can walk inside the mansion. The trail back up is a lot tougher, and our group of children, teenagers, and adults had to take a few breaks on the way up. So many great views make sure to have your camera ready!
Pretty far walk but the bathrooms before you head down the trail, Even though they were porta-johns, were very clean. Beach was filled with pollen from the trees so it wasn't that pretty but the water was warm enough to swim in. Kayaks were cool and easy to rent.

Vikingholm is an old castle that was built in the late 1860's. It was a vacation home built on the shores of Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe. This is accessed by foot or by boat. This place is gorgeous! Call ahead to see when they have tours. I don't know the pricing since we were on our boat and just cruised by.
We parked and took the 1 mile trail down. It’s a steep trail, going down was fine but going back up took us twice as long. Bring water, there is no water once you make it down. At the castle is a private beach, lots of paths to hike and walk, a gift shop, and waterfalls! Absolutely beautiful here. The restrooms were clean but non flushing toilets.
Great hike down to the house and the beach. Eagle Falls at the top of the trail was really nice and the snow melt was creating a beautiful waterfall.
Lovely Scandinavian inspired home in Emerald Bay. Get there early as parking fills up fast. You will need to hike almost a mile to access the home. Ticket booth opened at 10 am and first tour is 10: 30 am. Enjoyed learning the history from the very knowledgeable guide! Tickets are $18 per adult but it goes to help with maintenance and restoration projects for Vikingsholm.
We were there a bit before the summer season started (first week of June) so information about when things were open, parking availability, and tour times were a bit scattered. When you go, it's best to call ahead to get the right information, because Google has been wrong before (and even the people in the booth by the parking lot had incorrect info) and the past schedule for activities doesn't necessarily dictate the current one. Once the season starts, I'm sure it'll be back to a typical schedule. We didn't have any trouble getting parking at 3pm on a Wednesday. Get the "until dusk" parking for $10 and leave enough time to get tickets at the visitor center. The walk down is fine enough for able-bodied people, but take your time on the walk up. We're out-of-shape normies, but that doesn't mean we don't deserve to appreciate nature! It took us about 15 min going down and 35 min coming up (but it was a struggle ngl). I didn't see anyone post any photos of the trail going up, so I was sure to include some here. I wouldn't approve this for my elderly grandparents, but I would ok it for my asthmatic father. No shame in taking a breather going up-leave taking scenic photos for the return trip to have an excuse to stop! Bring water and be sure to cover up/use SPF because there isn't consistent tree cover (and I burned my scalp).
Anyone who hasn't walked the 1 mile from the parking area to the lakeside has missed out on a visit.
This is a very interesting place. We didn’t know that there would be kayaking so that was a surprise. It’s a steep hike to reach there. The parking lots get full by 8.30 am so it is advisable to get there before.
A really beautiful place to visit in Tahoe. An amazing piece of historical interest. I would recommend getting to the parking area as early as possible as the spaces are limited. The hike down to Vikingsholm isn't bad, but note that it is a mile long (so it's a two mile round trip) with an elevation change of about 1000 feet. I highly recommend visiting this site.
GREAT Hike downhill & uphill to visit Vikingsholm! The view of Emerald Bay from Vikingsholm is phenomenal! The Tour Staff are GREAT & the history brief is also GREAT! Thank You!
