Wayfare Tavern reviews
20Excellent chicken. Great example that dish doesn't need to be complicated to be delicious
Stopped in for lunch, we stood in the doorway while several minutes waiting to be seated while 3 employees looked right at us but did not acknowledge us. After being ignored for a while, we left and walked further down the street and found a great pub. Don’t stop here.
Easily one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Get the burger. You will not be disappointed. The cocktails are really great as well.
Lovely place to eat, service was excellent and so was the atmosphere. Husband had the mussels and the broth was just average according to him. Not bread dipping worthy. I had the braised short rib and it was very delicious. Definitely worth a try!
This place was recommended by a friend who lives in San Francisco and I am so thankful I've been there (twice). The first time I sat outside and tried the chicken and waffles dish (superb) and the second time we sat inside and had the burger. Best burger in my life (ok no exaggerating there).
We were going to fly back to Europe straight after our meal and one of the servers was so kind and gave us a bag with their delicious and airy popovers (must try).
The gold standard of high end dining. Nothing comes out of the kitchen that isn’t perfect. The service is ultra polished and the atmosphere of the joint is extremely classy. 11/10 would recommend if you’re looking for a low key place to look down upon the proletariat.
Outstanding food and home of the top 3 best burgers in the country. I've tried the lobster bisque, the ceasar with grilled salmon is very good, the Mac and cheese and the chocolate cake.
The burger is well thought out with a brioche bun, avocado, high quality beef, mushrooms and the regular toppings. Flavor was perfect. I ordered medium-well, and would go medium next time. The last time I was there, however, the Ceasar salad, the salmon and the butter were over-salted, and the mac and cheese was bland. (Chef may have had an off day?)
The chocolate cake is perfection. It's dense with multiple layers and is fantastic with buttermillk vanilla ice cream. Can't wait to try it again.
The service is outstanding.
Great venue for private party. Food was great. Scott was very accommodating and the location is awesome!
This was our second visit in nine months, both visits exceeded expectations. The place is easy to miss in the canyons of the Financial District, but the interior is classic dark and cozy. This visit, we set a modest goal to share a salad and an entree and hope we had room for desert. It doesn’t help that they have excellent cocktails and those irresistible popovers. The Butter Lettuce starter is a great version of the classic Green Goddess, and they kindly split it for us. The Short Rib arrived on a platter, one of the largest I’ve ever been served, plus the bone. We carved five slices of the rib between us. The mash and veggies were old school with modern flair. Alas, no room for a fresh donut for dessert this time - save room for them if you can.
Everything we got there was awesome! The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail were the largest shrimp we've ever gotten. The fried chicken was so good.
I decided to edit this review from 5 years ago: Part hunting lodge part high end food.the popovers are worth the trip. We sat near the kitchen to watch the prep. Stools don’t move but there are two other bars in this place so take your pick. After 5-7 years of coming, it still pretty darn good. They are always nice and knowledgeable and they have a nice Merry Edwards Pinot, which I recommend you try.
Indulging in the flavors of San Francisco has never been better than at Wayfare Tavern. From their mouthwatering burgers to their delectable seafood dishes, this American food haven offers an unforgettable culinary experience. The cozy ambiance and friendly staff make it a must-visit spot in the heart of San Francisco.
First meal in San Francisco. Recommended by our doorman, didn't disappoint. Great atmosphere and friendly staff.
Love this place. Great atmosphere, professional and friendly staff, and nice selection of dishes. Have been here for brunch and dinner several times and they never disappoint.
Drinks only: the beer tasted like the beer lines had not been cleaned and the mixed drinks were pre mixed and stored in the refrigerator. The martini arrived instantly and I saw an old fashioned poured from a pitcher and garnished by the bartender.
Disappointing! Expecting it to be a 10 and it was the complete opposite! Service was terrible, even the maître d’ noticed we didn’t get a round of drinks and then he didn’t even put them in and the server acted like she had no idea we were waiting for them. Waited a long time to get the food and then it was not worth it, Barata toast was awful, shrimp were good but cocktail sauce was funky like they mixed barbecue sauce or some kind of smoked oil in with cocktail sauce. Burgers were dry and lacked seasoning, Fried chicken was really a let down, The worst part was when the bill came the server had added $86 for Avian water that we never ordered and then tried to justify why it was on the bill before finally taking it off. I am a fan of the owner and expected so much more. Definitely would not recommend and will not be back.: (
This place was amazing. Little more on the pricey side but worth it. Even got to meet the owner who we saw helping his team. Always nice to see. We had the salmon and fried chicken and oh my it was amazing. Our waitress was amazing. Told us about the building and how it was a bank. You have to go to experience it yourself.
Lovely space but with bland, mediocre food served by people who would rather be anywhere else.
The food was good, but not for the price paid. The atmosphere on the other hand was terrific. But the 3 stars is primarily due to the service before we Sat at the table. We came before the reserved time and had to wait 15 mins after the scheduled time to get a table. The host was probably overworked and didn't make us feel at home and it almost felt that we won't get a table unless we stand right in front of the host. If I could give 3.5 I would, but I picked 3 because this doesn't deserve 4 for the price and expectations.
Solid execution, feeling of a posh place in central london, curated and effective wine program
