The rangers are very helpful and awsome, bathrooms are clean, not that expensive eather has a nice store and hot showers I think it was 17$ for like 10-15 min. There is a nice waterfall and a nice creek with a trail running next to it, also trout on the creek. There's also a nice 2.5 mile trail hike up to the first lake wich you don't need a permit for after that you do, other than that this place is beautiful

It's a beautiful campground and just half a mile from the Whitney trailhead. Very high bear activity so keep everything locked up in the bear bins.

Such an incredible spot, hiking whitney or not! We stayed early September and the bees were out of control when cooking so just be aware of that!

Well kept, serene campground. Perfect place to start your summit attempt or just relax by the stream under the stars.

Awesome, awesome campground. Since most people are there to wake up early and hike it's probably the quietest and cleanest car-camping place I've ever been. It was also a pleasant 70F as opposed to the 100+ down in Lone Pine. Sites are very small so prepare for that. What really made this place though was the camp host. He was super friendly and helpful and just all around fun to chat with.

An absolutely amazing campground in a stunning location. The facilities and sites were pristine and the camp hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming with any questions or issues. Can't wait to come back!

Very beautiful campground, high up in the eastern Sierras. This area can get quite crowded in summer, so be forewarned and plan ahead if visiting.

It's a really nice campground, we didn't expect it to be so well kept. Lots of bathrooms, pretty good parking, everything was clean. Keep in mind that it's on the side of a mountain so it's very vertically built, but I'd definitely come back. You can hike a few miles up before getting to the point where a permit is required, and the trail up is very beautiful and very steep. A lot of water there.

Very clean and keep up! We came in for a 'first come' camp spot and had a great overnight in the cool weather on an August afternoon. Temp at 3pm, 68 degrees! Fire wood for sale onsight.

Host Emily and Bob where awesome. Came by are camp site 4 or 5 times to see if my wife, two boys and I where having a great time, or if we needed anything, or even gave my boys some fish bate. Camp sites are clean and soo are the bathrooms. Have bear boxes there for a reason. Use them.
Bears are always going through open camps and vehicle's for food. So beawear of the.satisfaction, 10 Star's,

Beautifully maintained and well preserved entrance to Mount Whitney Campground. Highly recommended. Just be aware of the Bears.

Was my favorite camping or launching off place in the Sierras, till the crowds of the last 40 years ruined it. Too much humanity, tight policing and lack of freedom now. Now you have to get into a lottery to get a space to go hiking, totally sucks. It's like going to Magic Mountain or Disneyland now.

DISCLAIMER: This campground is at an elevation of 8,000 feet and we weren’t aware of acute elevation sickness which can occur at this height. With a little research and planning you can avoid symptoms.

Otherwise, this campground is absolutely stunning. Our site had a lot of shade and was alongside a rushing creek. People were fishing and it’s just a nice area to walk around. We only had it for one night but this is the kind of place you’d want to relax in and enjoy for more than a day. Plus you’re just down the road the Portal Store which sells food and supplies and then you can hike the tallest mountain in the contiguous US, Mt. Whitney.

We were extremely cautious and put ANY scented items in the large bear container. We had no issues or even any sightings so do yourself a favor and leave nothing scented in your car or tent.

I only have two negatives, I wish the bathroom wasn’t so far from our particular site but I will add that they are maintained every day. Also we had hoped to purchase firewood which is offered on the sign but didn’t know where to purchase it and it isn’t sold at the Portal Store.

Great location, convenient for Mount Whitney hikers, and beautiful creek that runs through the campground. Restrooms are vault toilets, but there’s a potable water spigot nearby for drinking water. Perfect for a summer escape.

Bears are extremely active in this campground especially around dusk. Have seen an adult black bear running across the overflow parking lot at about 10 pm. One car got broken into and another panicked guy has said a bear broke into his tent because he has left his food out. There are signs everywhere claiming this fact that bears are active and to not leave out food but people still leave their food out.

It’s a beautiful place to start some amazing hikes but can be quite frankly ruined by people leaving litter everywhere. There are deodorized wag bags with some toilet paper inside provided for free at the beginning of the mount Whitney trail but I have seen wag bags, used menstrual pad, dirty boxers left behind on the trails and human excrement after the 99 switchbacks.

There are vault toilets with air fresheners. Feels disgusting but smells okay. There are plenty of trash cans and recycle bins. Have to share bear lockers when hiking mount Whitney. I would not recommend leaving valuables in shared bear lockers. Might get stolen since people travel in and out. There are water spigots around but some water spigots are better than others.

Also the portal store sells sandwiches and basic items but they don’t know anything about camp reservations.

Such a Great Campground at the base of Mt. Whitney - Clean Restrooms - Wonderful Campground Host - And we can't leave out the Portal Store that provides a great breakfast and/or lunch

One of the best campgrounds I’ve ever stayed in. Camp host was awesome. Everything is well kept and most of the sites are very private for a public campground. Elevation is above 8000’ so it gives you a chance to acclimate to altitude prior to hiking Mount Whitney. I think the best stays are along the creek on the east side of the campground.
