3Trail needs upkeep. Currently changing ownership from POST to MidPen.
This is a beautiful area to hike since you have a view of the ocean nearly the whole way. The weather is generally on the cooler side, but I suggest bringing a hat or some kind of coverage from the sun. It takes about 20 minutes to walk one way (without stopping). Parking is free and off the highway.
The trail is bumpy, but dry and easy to navigate. There's a bench around the halfway point, and a few more benches at the end of the trail where the telescope is.
I saw one (harmless) snake, lots of birds, and moths. No dogs are allowed on this trail.
You can see the Pigeon Point lighthouse easily throughout most of the hike.
GREAT 2 MILE ROUNDTRIP! Nice clear trails, excellent views, easy, well-maintained and clearly delineated grass trail. Very gradual. Constant incredible views of the coasts and the prairies leading to the coast. Sitting at the end is a nice reward. Highly recommended. The parking lot is an added benefit with plenty of room.
