Wine Cellar Restaurant, Los Gatos CA

We gad a lovely dinner on a busy Saturday night. The fondue was perfect. The experience was simply wonderful in all areas. Dinner was the Duck Confit and Short ribs. Key lime pie for dessert with cappuccino.

Food was of less than mediocre quality. I had bok choy in my meal and it was overcooked. For the high prices charged I expect better quality food. Service was also less than desired. Waiter "auctioned" off food when he brought it as if it were a Chili's restaurant. Prices and location may look like a fine dining establishment but food and service are poor. The only reason why this establishment charges what it does is due to it's location.

I’m very sad to be writing a pan of a once great Los Gatos restaurant. Although our dishes demonstrated a working cook’s understanding of how to prepare them, we were quite surprised by:

- dirty glassware (lipstick stains) and utensils (rice stuck to a spoon, which was replaced with a fork). Appallingly careless.
- the wrong soup was served to one of our companions.
- our salad was forgotten.
- mushrooms were requested on the side but were on top of the dish. Relatively minor, I suppose.
- food was served cold.
- meat ordered medium rare was thoroughly medium.

It was a busy night I’m sure, Saturday before Valentine’s Day, so the slow service and noisy back room are understandable. But many of the restaurant’s mistakes are not what one expects from a business that positions themselves at this level. Sad and disappointing.

A lively time with my friend and her mother. They got the above appetizer which was a meal in itself. I got the French dip.amazing.cooked to perfection seasoned perfectly. There is a reason the wine caller is still reliably one if the best restaurants in Lis Gatos. The server knew before we did what we needed

Absolutely amazing fisherman's pasta - best I've had. This is a really nice place for both lunch and dinner, with great soups and salads and very friendly service

Loved the outdoor patio. Our server was great and the drinks were delicious! Definitely a lot better than we'd anticipated.

Try the gin and cucumber drink. Yummm!

Halibut and seared tuna were great too.

Los Gatos staple for sure. Awesome place, great food, doesn't matter what you order, it's going to be good.

We just had the most wonderful dinner at wine cellar. The food was lovely, the view was great and best of all was the service! Our waiter was so kind to us and my little nephew. At the end of the night he brought over an ice cream for him:) We cannot wait to come back and thank you so much to our wonderful waiter!

Good was great. Friendly service. Cozy downstairs atmosphere. Only down side, the booths can grow un-comfortable after about 30minutes of sitting.

Another great experience, provided by an established local restaurant that has kept its quality of food and service. Our waiter Moises, was bar none the best server we’ve ever had. The kind that stays in your mind. His demeanor, interaction and attentiveness was flawless. This is the kind of restaurant, you need to support regularly. The ambiance, food and service were some of the best we’ve experienced.

The Wine Cellar is a Los Gatos institution. This family owned and operated restaurant first opened in the 1960’s and has been in the same hands for 30+ years. Many of the staff have worked here for years and service has always been top notch.

My wife and I have dined here often, mostly for lunch. The downstairs dining room is quiet and cozy with old world style decor and subdued lighting, but we prefer to sit on the large patio which we think is the best outdoor dining spot in town.

Our last experience was at lunch on New Years eve day. I ordered the bistro steak medallions which I think are tastier and more tender than other beef items on the menu. The three pieces of meat were cooked perfectly (medium rare) but I’ll have to ask them to cut back on the sautéed mushrooms and onions next time so that the sauce doesn’t overwhelm the food.

My wife enjoyed her double shrimp and avocado salad. She doesn’t really like tiny bay shrimp so our server just substituted a few more prawns without charging extra. The seared Ahi salad used to be her favorite, but the quality of the fish hasn’t been the same for a while.

We make it a point to order their delectable mixed berry puff pastry for desert. The pastry is always fresh and flaky and the vanilla ice cream and whipped cream complement the berry compote nicely.

If you’re in the mood for classic American fare with a California twist, I definitely recommend the Wine Cellar.

Really nice place to relax and grab a drink. I had their duck dish made rare, which was lovely.
Prior to that (during my previous visits), I've enjoyed their tuna tartare.

The food was cooked exactly right! It was absolutely delicious! Look at the mushrooms! And the chocolate fondue for dessert! Fabulous! The drinks were top notch & the atmosphere was friendly & fun. A great night at a new favorite restaurant! 0
