The pride of Long Beach Organic, a grassroots community effort started by our ex congressman Alan Loewenthal and Captain Charles Moore, to turn vacant lots into urban agricultural efforts. Medical research has finally caught up with these people of vision, gardening has been proven to have beneficial effects of mental and physical health and well-being. It has proven effects on depressive mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and dementia.
That should be enough for you to call your local politicians and urge them to tax vacant lots so much the owners are begging to turn them into a farm.
