Such great service! This is a full-service restaurant and cafe with tons of seating and a beautiful atmosphere. I'll be coming back (maybe everyday!)!

1 year in, and I'm confident this is the greatest daytime work/study spot in all of the East Bay. You want to be here on a rainy day.

Just a 15min walk or 7min scooter ride from Laney College, Zocalo in Brooklyn Basin is aesthetic, spacious, and delicious. My wife and I wanted to get some work done one afternoon, and we popped in to get creme brulee lattes (iced is the way to go) and a BLT.

Weekend brunch here is absolutely underrated - chefs do a fantastic job. I've tried a couple different things (including weekday lunch) and while food costs a more on par with a restaurant than a cafe - the generous slices of bread, and the perfectly fried potatoes put this place over the top of many other go-to spots in Oakland. Paired with weekend mimosas and board games to rent - this place is an absolute vibe.

Check their hours! If they were open later - I think this spot could be an excellent evening study cafe/bar (like Mother Tongue on broadway, or Social Study / The Interval in SF). It's added to our list and we'll cozy up here again whenever we need a relaxing cafe date. Thank you Sara & the Zocalo team for bringing beautiful cafe space to Oakland.

Breakfast biscuit with bacon and avocado When the owner doesn’t work there herself she has a good staff in place. Ignore the trolls who clearly don’t know what they’re talking about.

This place has good coffee (I still prefer Sbux for customer service, speediness and price/rewards program) but the food is so overpriced. I was grabbing two small (and I mean small) chicken wraps to go and the total cost was $30+ (did not include any sides or drinks). The wraps are worth $6-8 each max, IMO. I quickly put them back and got some delicious lumpias across the street. I wish Brooklyn Basin had more nearby food and grocery options ASAP…. Or else I’m moving.

The sourdough bread for the burger was absolutely delicious and the establishment was noticeably clean with a relaxed atmosphere by the water.

The food is pricier than your average cafe fare imo, but all the ingredients were fresh and our orders were very good. I'm looking forward to coming here again.

Oh my god this was good. The service was great, the atmosphere was warm and personal, elevated by the art and location. The Croque G’damn is exceptional, to the point that I HAD to compliment the chef directly. Go here. Get it.

They (Zocalo) do not turn their music off at night and their speakers, situated outside of the apartment windows of the building they are located in, blast loud music throughout the night. They have been asked to turn it off upon closing and comply sporadically. Very disrespectful to your neighbors!

Excellent espresso (and welcoming staffers) in an airy space across the street from the 9th Avenue Terminal; a valuable addition to the Brooklyn Basin area.

Best breakfast I had all year! I came in just hoping for a decent cup of coffee and was blown away of what they got going on! Staffed helped me with the choice and this breakfast was huge! The price to portion was a match. I typically don't do potatoes but the flavor is here and i am glad i listened! Same with the breakfast sandwich with the Chipotle sauce and bite from thin sliced red onion and sprouts! These folks can cook and know what tastes good! The parking is a little rough, but you can always park down the way and walk along the water. The art and music represent the best things about the Bay Area!

This space is big and bright with lots of seating and parking. The food is delicious. It’s a great place to work, because there is plenty of table space.

Our travels brought us to Oakland and the Brooklyn Basin where we found a real treasure - Zocalo Coffee and Kitchen. Loved the vibe, the food and the people. The food is excellent, loved the fried chicken sando and the frittata. Definitely try the Mexican Mocha. The staff are friendly and social. If you’re in the area come to Zocalo. If not, make the trip. It’s worth it.

Got there at 1130 on Sunday. While I’m trying to find a menu, either printed or on the wall, the hostess (?) and the cook simultaneously tell me that the kitchen’s closed and it may open in a half hour or maybe 45 minutes. I got a coffee and sat down to read. Meanwhile, plates continue to be served all around me. Shrödinger’s kitchen. It apparently never opened at least for me, only for other people.

The location of this spot is great! I like stopping by early to enjoy the calm before the busyness of late breakfast/brunch.

Whenever I visit my best friend in Brooklyn Basin I come here. The food is fantastic and the workers are super friendly. It’s dog-friendly and perfectly located right by the boardwalk.
Zocalo has become a central part of my trips to the Bay Area.
