Zushi Puzzle, San Francisco CA

Overall a wonderful amazing experience with chef roger! We were lucky enough to be the only ones at the sushi bar and got to have great conversation and learned alot about sushi and the fish! The nirgiri pieces, hand rolls, and carpaccio were all delicious! Totally worth it! Best ever!

I am a Sushi lover; I ate over 150 sushi restaurants and travel around cities and countries, I always looks for good reviewers and tries out.
This place Sushi restaurant, I read reviews and thought its good, but I'm wrong, I orders Sashimi, most place I went, the Chef cut sushi very nice pieces, this place, chef cut sashimi in angle and small pieces. And time waiting was so long, I stay there more than 2 hours, I have to cancel the last order, I was keep asks, but waiter says not done, but restaurant look empty few people there.
Time bill come cost me $170, I'm very surprise, Because I'm in hurry, so I let it go. But will not come back here again for sure.
Sometime people reviewers not true as it is, very disappointing this place.

Roger is absolutely amazing. I have had sushi from the best places in NY and by fare this is the best I’ve ever had. From the grandma toro to the unique fish belly. If you are looking for the best this is it! Sit at the bar have a great time and eat the most unique, high grade sushi ever.

One of the best meals I have ever had. I have been to both the sushi bar and the restaurant. If you can’t get into the sushi bar then the table seating is still fantastic but the sushi bar with roger is a MUST. He is so friendly and makes the evening entertaining. He explains every fish and I am excited to go back!

Roger is a legend. I’ve been to most omakases in SF and this is the best one. Insane pieces of fish that you’ll never see elsewhere, and amazing preparation. He goes through the process of aging a lot of his fish — sushi chefs rarely take the time to do this! This food is insane.

Our last day in SA and I have to say that Roger was the cherry on the top! Best sushi I had in my life! You have the sit at the bar to get the best experience and taste explosions. Roger was very nice and also told us how to eat each delicious sushi he made. This is a story that I have to tell anyone who will visit SF! Thank you very much, Roger! Please come to Germany and open another restaurant ️

Fantastic omakase and regular menu options. The regular menu has fresh fish for a very reasonable price, and the omakase features unique and delicious options like aged toro.

I’m going to make this simple, everyone needs to go dine at Zushi Puzzle and go see Roger. This man is so passionate about his craft and it reflects on every plate he serves. He is very personable and wants to teach you about the quality he serves while enjoying it. I’ve been to countless high end sushi places both east and west coast and as of now Zushi Puzzle is #1 on the list. When we come back to SF this is the first spot we will be going back to. Roger led us through the most magical evening in the most unassuming of locations. My friend and I came in after a work meeting and told him to take control and oh my did he. This was hands down the best sushi experience of my life. Worth any money and challenge getting there. Just go. You won’t regret it. I promise.

I had an amazing sushi experience at this SF restaurant! The sushi bar seating allowed us to interact with Chef Roger, who took us on a delightful journey from the sourcing of the fish to the art of savoring each bite. I was pleasantly surprised by my newfound love for fish varieties that I would typically overlook elsewhere. This can be attributed to the exceptional quality, meticulous preparation, and Chef Roger's expertise. The overall experience was truly worth the price, leaving me thoroughly satisfied.

Eating with Chef Roger was always an extraordinary experience. We enjoyed his omakase dinner twice during our stay in San Francisco. The fish was amazing and expertly prepared. Roger was always able to provide a familiar and fun atmosphere, we were able to try different dishes according to our taste and learned a lot about Japanese Cuisine while dining with him. I would highly recommend eating at the bar.

Unassuming place, stellar sushi and service. The decor looks like it’s stuck in the 80’s but don’t let that fool you. The place has been running smoothly for decades. Highly recommend the omakase and letting Roger take care of you at the bar (you’ll need to reserve). He gave good guidance on how to eat what he served or in which order to gain maximum impact on your palate. Fairly priced and frankly, the freshest tastiest fish I’ve had so far in the Bay area (believe me when i say I’m a sushi fanatic). Dessert was also excellent, who would have thought matcha ice cream made a good pairing with wasabi? Also, the wasabi here is the REAL THING shipped from Japan. I’ve eaten sushi all over the world and this place awed me with the best tasting wasabi ever: we finished 2 served portions!

Wow. Amazing sushi here at Zushi Puzzle. Definitely reserve a spot at the bar and have Chef Roger prepare an awesome omakase experience. The fish is of such high quality and you get to experience a lot of new types of fish as well. Plus the price compared to other Omakase restaurants is much more fair. Everyone was very friendly as well and the service was great.

I HATE Roger! I let him guide the meal throughout the evening, he made us discover new ways to eat sushis, new flavors, a complete new experience… I hate Roger because he ruined all the other sushis I used to think were great. So go to Zushi Puzzle with caution, because there is no way back… Once you give your trust to chef Roger to discover his world, passion, and food, your perception of what is great sushis will be changed forever. This is a truly unique experience and I am looking forward next time I am in town to have new one along this outstanding chef.
