China Chilcano by José Andrés reviews
20The tasting menu was great, and the building atmosphere and help staff made for a great experience!
Chinese and Japanese food powered y Peru! I have no idea on what do I write in this review, but the restaurant is beautiful, great service and interesting food.
Very average food, taste is not amazing as the reviews and marketing say, some plates are even salty. And it definitely wasn’t nikkei or peruvian food
Came for restaurant week and got the prix fixe, but they didn’t mention the portion on the prix fixe would be half sized so we felt misled
I’ve never written a bad review before. And the strangest thing is, the food was great! I give this place 1 star though because they charged us $21 for coke. When I got the bill, I asked what the charge was for and they said we drank 3 Mexican cokes. I said no the coke was in a plastic glass not a bottle, so it was regular coke, which I’m happy to pay for. They gave me a lot of pushback and got the manager who went into the back to show me proof of the Mexican coke. He came back out empty handed because the restaurant was out of Mexican coke and they had, indeed, given us regular coke. While I was waiting for the new bill, the waiter for our table aggressively bumped into my shoulder, and it was not an accident. This was some of the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced, which is unfortunate because the food was delicious.
We came here for restaurant week and chose from the sample menu. We really
Enjoyed ourselves, the waitstaff were amazing And very knowledgeable. The only downside was feeling rushed. We pre-selected each course from the restaurant menu and each dish came out very quickly. Sometimes before we finished the current dish. Nonetheless, the food was delicious and it had a great ambience. Warning for the Tam Tam noodles: it’s pretty spicy.
Overall: 4.75. Trendy Jose Andres restaurant in D. C.located a block from Chinatown Metro & other hotspots/tourist attractions. It didn’t disappoint. Peruvian flavors fused with Japanese & Chinese cuisines. Tasty appetizers, entrees, tapas, drinks & desserts. Dancing Yucca, Sauguche de Chauchon& de Pasado, Aji de Gallina & Aeropuerto w/Shrimp so delicious. Parking is always challenging in downtown D. C. Recommend you make reservations to avoid long waits.
We were really excited to eat here. The lobster dish caught my eye. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t throwing 70 dollars away, so I asked the waitress how it was and she said it was delicious. Well, I guess I should have known better. There was hardly any lobster meat in the deep fried bits, and the sauce was extremely salty. They even skimped on the garlic rice. Basically, I was very disappointed. The rest of the food was not as bad, but nothing special. I doubt that I would eat at the restaurant again.
Tried several new to me dishes from their special dinner menu, one item from each section. Everything was fantastic from the starters through the desserts. Had a flight of pisco with dinner and a pisco sour after. The staff was super friendly and efficient. Highly recommend!
Superb dinner at this cute fusion spot on our trip to DC. Fun and eclectic mix of Asian and Chilean food/drinks was just just what we needed after a long day of walking around town.
The food and service were fine. We ordered the Peruvian chicken to find out that cones with sauces instead of sides. We had to request a spice sauce on the side because the trio that came with the chicken lacked spice.
We are in DC for the holiday, so I looked up places to eat, always based on their reviews. We love Peruvian food, so this place fitted like a glove, we got greeted by a somewhat rude hostess that kind of tinted our experience, we had no reservation but there were plenty tables available, however she made it very clear we had to “return” the table by a set time…
The food was actually great, the ceviche portion was small and servers a little too eager to clean the tables, I do have to say the Lomo Saltado was one of the best we have had.
My experience here surpassed my expectations — I had been raving about a Peruvian restaurant in the city to a friend, and they told me to come here. I went spontaneously before a movie at the Gallery Place theater for some apps and drinks. From the minute we walked in, we were greeted with warm service. It was a Saturday night and we had no reservations, so we were hoping for the bar, which was full upon arrival. The host was diligent in tracking where each party was in their meal and let us know stools would open up soon. Once two did, which was about 90 seconds after we arrived, he let us know. Our bartender was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, helping us choose dishes to satisfy our specific pallets. Everything we had was remarkable. The prices were not outlandish either, and service was incredibly fast. The interior was also eclectic and vibrant, matching the energy of the restaurant. I highly recommend.
The waitress was awesome and service was really quick. The food was also fantastic. Definitely recommend.
This restaurant is using Lab-grown chicken (Fake chicken) made by GOODMEAT Avoid this restaurant.
My friend and I go to restaurants often and we chose China Chilcano for DC restaurant week. It was a wonderful experience. From the moment you walk in you are truly taken care of. The staff are kind, helpful, knowledgable and very attentive. The food was delicious and the presentation was gorgeous. A few "not to miss" items I will mention specially- the yucca aeropuerto fries were so unusual and incredibly tasty. We could not get over how good they are. We loved everything but particularly the chow mein, ceviche and the desserts just knocked our socks off.
We came here for lunch for restaurant week and were very excited. The restaurant is gorgeous and a very unique vibe which I absolutely loved. The service was also really great. I think the food was good but was expecting a bit more based on the fun and playfulness of the vibe of the restaurant. Would recommend for a good vibe but not very impressed by the Suspiro Limena dessert.
It's worth a visit if only for the originality of the decor. Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff. The kitchen is not my favorite but it's a matter of taste!
Ordered four dishes, a noodle, a Ceviche, a dumpling, and a donburi. They were nicely presented and tasted fine but we're nothing to write home about. The allergy menu is rather confusing to read (sometimes a label means it has it while sometimes it means it doesn't have an item). The service was so-so, wait staff was great but the food took quite some time. Ambiance is lovely.
Pretty restaurant. Great concept. But simply ok food. I found the menu pricey but the food not that tasty.
So delicious! We did the 'Restaurant Week' menu and it did not disappoint. Got to taste several dishes, very flavorful and filling. Our server was in training but you'd never know. She was knowledge about the ingredients and made great suggestions.
