Beautiful memorial to DC residents who fought in WW1 and to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. It’s a simple memorial often missed on the mall. There is also a cottage industry on weddings at this site, which was ongoing when i came to visit. I did talk to one of the excited guests standing well outside the ceremony and she let me know that reserving the space for a couple of hours through the National Park Service was less than $100 - the party probably paid more in parking. Anyway, it’s a beautiful monument and a nice place to reflect slightly away from the hubbub on the main walkway of the mall.

I remember seeing this YEARS ago when it was all but forgotten, trees and brush growing and almost hiding it from view.
Now it's as it should be.

The only monument on the Mall dedicated to DC residents, specifically those Washingtonians who gave their lives in WWI. A special place; modular shows held here sometimes too

Very impressive! There is a War in the Atlantic page and a War in the Pacific page. Pretty much in the middle of a wall are hundreds of gold stars, with one star representing 400 fallen US soldiers.

My friends and I didn't stay long at the D. C. War Memorial, but we had to stop. This one is slightly off the path of memorials compared to all the others in the area. To a certain extent, it feels hidden.

It's a beautiful memorial and one I suggest persons visit.

This was my first time photographing at this location and I was so excited for it! It felt very intimate and its far enough away from the rest where there isn't too much foot traffic. Parking is difficult so expect to have to walk a bit to her here and sometimes segway tours do a little circle around it. Other then that it is perfect for small weddings or even an elopement (you can self officiate in DC).

This memorial, dedicated to the Washingtonians that participated in The Great War, is overlooked compared to surrounding sites, though it’s a monument not to miss.

500 names of all participants regardless of race, ethnicity or branch of the service are listed along the outside foundation.

Standing in the center at the small rotunda and looking up, you see a spectacular interior of the dome. Looking ahead and taking in the 360 degree view, the ionic columns frame views of the National Mall, WWII Memorial and Washington Monument.

You don’t have to spend much time here to enjoy it for a moment and respect the intention of the D. C. War Memorial.

Did you know, DC has a War Memorial on the National Mall. It is located near the World War II Memorial and a short distance across the street from the MLK Jr. Memorial. Depending on on your route, you could see the domed structure and totally miss the historical marker.

Attended a ModularOnTheMall show. Modular synthesizer performers played under the dome. It was a special show with quadraphonic sound that was AMAZING! They'll be back in the Spring. It's free to attend, and I highly recommend it.
