District Taco reviews
17District Taco is generally very good, but avoid this location. Got the order completely wrong twice in a row and wouldn’t refund.
My partner and I were in town visiting and stopped by the Capitol Hill location given their connection to the bike racing scene. My partner has a gluten allergy and we were very explicit about substituting corn tortillas for flour and holding the fries (cross contamination in the fryer) in the breakfast tacos. After their first bite they realized it was too late - there were fries in the tacos and thus they were contaminated with gluten. I am extremely disappointed at the lack of attention to allergens and we will not be coming back nor recommending this restaurant to anyone who has a food sensitivity. The bright side of the situation is that the homeless man sitting outside got a free meal!
Ordered online for delivery through the website. When I got to the confirmation page, it said that the order will be available for pickup. When I called the location to confirm it was for delivery, they said in fact it is for pickup. When I asked if they can switch it to delivery, they said no, I would have to cancel and reorder. I asked if I can cancel while I have them on the phone, they said no, I have to do it online. So I go online and, wouldn’t you have it, there’s no option to cancel. In fact, it says specifically that changes in order have to be made by phone at the specific location. Literally what I just got off the phone with. So I call again and ask to cancel. The poor guy says he can’t so I ask for the manager. The manager apparently tells this guy to tell me I have to call “corporate”. I ask him if he can give me the number for corporate, he tells me no. I ask him if his manager has the number for corporate. He said they don’t have it either. So I hang up and look online. There’s no corporate number. So I call two other locations, they both have no idea what I’m talking about. So I call back again to this location, ask to speak to the manager. She finally says there was some confusion with what I was asking (essentially throwing her employee under the bus), and that she will cancel the order this evening. God knows if I actually get my money back but, my god, what an absolute trash customer experience.
Staff was rude and unhelpful. They seemed to be out of half the items even though they just opened. I stood waiting for my order for nearly 25mins, even though I was the only customer in the restaurant. Seems catering order are a bigger priority for this location. Makes no sense to make someone wait in person for people who come in later. Update: Just watched half the staff make their own breakfast and they are now sitting down eating it, wasn’t catering. Lol. Guess I’ll get my food now. Feel never fail to surprise me.
I have to say my experience yesterday at the location of the pick up staff was very poor. When ordering I accidentally placed my Churro desert and not my burrito along with it. I got to the store for my 7: 30 pick up at 7: 25 I went directly to the pick up area. There was a woman in front of me in line. I waited my turn and stepped up to the pick up counter area. I was not acknowledged or greeted. Assuming one of the workers will eventually after will once they caught up on food prepping I waited five minutes but no one did. A food courier cut in front of me and they saw to him his pickup order while never again greeting me or acknowledging my presence to retrieve my order. At this point, I noticed there was bags of food on the rack. I saw my first order was there (7: 15 Churro) and since I'm not standing in this restaurant for my health, I went to the prepping counter and after looking at some of the small bags, found my Burrito order. I grabbed it and started to head out the restaurant. I suddenly hear shouts of Sir! From tone then both of the worker who spent the last 6-10 minutes ignoring me. I made a judgements call there not to keep on walking out so law enforcement wouldn't be called on me for theft of food I've brought!
I said to them "So you see me now! " I went to them and showed my email receipt with one STILL asking me to provide the second one even though both bags has my name and number on both of them ignoring the fact wouldn't know what I ordered and payed for.
This is not the first time I've been rudely not acknowledge while other people quickly were, though not at this l location. I will never return this location but if this pattern occurs again at another location, I will not patron this food chain ever again.
I visit District Taco, frequently on Pennsylvania Avenue S. E. WDC. The food is delicious and the restaurant is usually clean. However, the district Mgr, is very unprofessional and I've had 2 bad experiences with her. I really don't know if perhaps she's overwhelmed or just doesn't like her job. She speaks very condescending to her customers, especially if there's an error with the order. This has happened twice. Granted I've had large orders every time I patronize this location, Pennsylvania Avenue, on Capitol Hill. I have been spoken to in a disrespectful manner. This is truly sad because I really enjoy the atmosphere, and it's also convenient to where I reside. Other than that I recommend anyone who enjoys a delicious taco to give it a chance.
The food was fine. My issue was one of the employees, Kerlyn. She was very rude and suggested that we hadn’t paid for the chorizo with our queso when it was clearly written by the cashier on our receipt. She proceeded to snatch the queso out of my boyfriend’s hand and then threw the new one at him. The cashier was not much better either. He was very bland and unaccommodating.
The sauce in their tacos leaked and melted the paper bag, my california burrito didn't have any french fries in it, and the bottom 3rd of my burrito was just plain white rice.
They're pretty good for the DMV area, but discerning California natives will probably be perplexed by the 'California burrito' build and the non-battered fish tacos.
Got our order wrong and one burrito was half rice and only half other stuff, but still delicious. Kids meals are great options for kids.
Great fresh tasting food, great authentic soda options from their fountain machine, their vegan meat option is honestly better than what you'd ever expect. Everything was seasoned well and tasted like they truly care about what they serve, if I could go higher than 5 stars I would.
The tacos are delicious. I suggest the grilled chicken tacos the jeffe way! Very tasty. The chips and queso are also a great side. They have an artisanal soda fountain and sometimes I wish they had regular diet coke. But I highly recommend the place and have brought lots of friends here.
Food was mediocre (takeout), took forever (people who ordered after me got their food before me) and they don't enforce mask rules inside (people just hanging out - not eating - and not wearing masks).
I stopped here for lunch a few times and it was equally as good each time. I had a burrito every visit and it was perfect. I do miss the salsa bar, I wish the salsa’s were available to order or something HINT HINT*
Easy a 4 star restaurant i had gotten the 3 tacos from there with lime rice Pico cheese sour cream with shredded chicken Bomb
We visited this location on Sept 12,2020 around 5 pm. The female cashier (dark hair) was very rude. She didn't greet us back. She was annoyed by our presence. She didn't respond to "thank you. " The dinning area trash can was overflowing, napkins and plastic forks, and other trash were scattered on the dinning area floor. The bathroom didn't seem to be attended to. The staff behind the counter were working very hard though.
My son and wife, love the fresh vegetables and I appreciate the staff, even though it was not crowded at the time they were quick, professional and polite. These things are important to me, thanks.
