El Sol Restaurante & Tequileria reviews
15I grew up on authentic Mexican food and theres a couple things that just rubbed me the wrong way.
A great little restaurant, my burrito was excellent, service was great, and the price was very reasonable. Highly recommend if you are in the area.
This restaurant imposes a 20% service fee on the bill, which likely goes to ownership while making tipping less feasible / likely for servers who need it. Shame on this restaurant for undermining consumers and their hardworking staff.
Great burrito and other Mexican dishes! I can recommend! Especially if you love spicy food!
Also fantastic cocktails
Need to adjust there prices online everything says it cost less than it actually does when you come here a bit misleading
Terrific little Mexican restaurant. You won't want to go back to chain Mexican restaurants after going here.
The food was really good. The service was on point. The waiter was very friendly and had a good personality. We ordered some guacamole for an app and it was tasty! I had the chicken mole tacos and my wife had the ting ting tacos and both were great, but the ting ting tacos had a little kick to them. I would recommend this little quaint spot with good food, service, and waiters. It's not real big inside but they do have outdoor seating based on your preference and an upstairs area.
If you are in the area this is the place for authentic Mexican food. Sometimes you might has to wait in line a little bit since they don’t take reservations but it’s worth it. This is my second time dining in this place and both times food was fantastic.
The vegetarian burrito was very good. The staff was friendly, and they did a creative take on the nacho cheese dip that they provide before the food comes. A little cramped to sit and eat, and the bathroom was a bit flooded
It was a good experience overall, and the food was good, so I was pretty happy. The food could have been a little spicier.
Personally, I ate very well. I left very satisfied.so much so that I was going to walk around to lose the fullness I had. The staff is generally friendly.
The service was terrible and the prices were exaggeratedly high for ridiculously small plate that are not good. I was really disappointed in the place.
My friends and I came in expecting the best Mexican food in DC. Instead, we were greeted by rude/unprofessional staff and deeply mediocre Mexican food at a steep price.
Make no mistake, despite the $ rating on Google, this place is easily $35 per head. The waitress point blank refused to accommodate a simple dietary request, barely spoke beyond that, and gave us the dirtiest looks when we asked for separate checks after only ordering 3 entrees.
The restaurant forces you to tip their terrible staff with an automatic 20% service fee added AFTER tax (basically a 23% tip), and has the audacity to ask for MORE tips on top of that. They intentionally make the receipt print small to mislead people into making their horrendous staff the highest tipped in DC.
Then there was the food. Straight away, it was off to a bad start - they provide just a handful of free table chips. Then, the entrees: The portion sizes do not reflect what you pay. You can tell they cook the entrees trying to give you as little meat as possible, while filling the plate with cheaper ingredients (peppers, salad, and refried beans that tasted like they were straight from a Goya can). The shrimp fajitas had FOUR shrimp for the whole dish. Even that was too much to fit in the tiny tortillas they provide - smaller than the palm of my hand. Just 30 mins later, we were all already hungry again.
At the end of the night, I went to wash my hands of this bad experience in the restaurant’s bathroom. As a final touch, There were no paper towels. I left the place hands dripping, unsatisfied.
Solid spot for burritos. If you need to eat a burrite in a hurry, hit up this spot. They're fast and inexpensive!
