Italian Restaurant Etto reviews
17Had a nice dinner here that was completely ruined by the horrible customer service. The waiter was friendly, but the kitchen staff spilled my wife’s drink all over her leaving her sitting there with liquid in her shoes the whole meal. This would normally be fine, mistakes happen, but upon receiving the check there was no discount. It still listed the drink that was spilled on her. When the waiter brought the check over, he also told us that there was a 20% “house charge” added to the total, despite no mention of this before the meal. The waiter made sure to mention this wasn’t the tip and wouldn’t be going to him, so we then had to tip another 20% on top of that. Insanity. All in we paid $81 for 2 pizzas and 2 sodas. Do not recommend this place at all.
First time stopping here for dinner. Arrived right at 5pm and there were plenty of bar and table seats available (they don't take reservations). The restaurant filled up quickly by 6pm.
Bar tender was helpful and took great care of those sitting in the bar area. For happy hour, they have a few cocktails and some bar bites. I started with their spritz, which was delicious.
After cocktails, a pecorino cheese plate with honey and chives accompanied by a glass of wine was a great segue to a perfectly made italian pizza.
My only regret is that I didn't have enough room to try the affogato!
10/10 would come here again.
The flavor profiles of the pies are on point. Just could be more crispier. Really good though. Very attentive staff!
Wow! No price shock and no attitudes:)
This place hits the sweet spot of good food, good ambiance and good value. Will definitely be back!
Great place! The waitress was very attentive, friendly and funny. Good came quickly. We sat outside and it rained but we were very cozy under the awning. It was perfect to go just before our show at studio theatre.
I would have liked more toppings on the pizza, I got the mushroom special pizza and it was a bit dry for me.
Food was really good! Nice space and ambience. Only negative was that it can get quite loud in the restaurant.
I love the pizza here! Although the chanterelle pizza did not have enough mushroom flavor tonight. But the crust was perfect! I also love the veggie side dishes. The cauliflower was divine. I usually order several sides and a pizza and feel perfectly satisfied. So amazing to have this stunning pizza joint in our neighborhood.
Update: the anchovies with green sauce and soft egg is deeeeelish!
We came as a walk in and Connor greeted us warmly and served us at the bar while we waited for our table to be ready. He was prompt and informative but also when he didn’t know the answer, he checked with the chefs/bartenders to make sure he gave us the correct answer. The pizza’s were extraordinary and the ingredients and the combination of flavor was exquisite. We recommend this beautiful/romantic spot to all and will definitely back to see Connor, Nina and Von who were incredibly sweet and kind even tho it was the last seating on a Sunday night
Nothing special about this place. We tried the margherita pizza, meatballs and the ricotta.
The pizza dough was good but the ricotta lacked of flavour.
The beers where the best of the meal.
Would not recommend unfortunately.
Went by during the dinner rush right before seeing a show at Studio Theatre. Great spot for great pizza and wine! I sat at the bar and ordered the Braised Fennel + Rosemary Pizza, the Affogato (Espresso with a small scoop of ice cream in it), and a glass of the featured wine (Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo).
All of it was delicious! The pizza was layered perfectly and paired well with the wine. A soft, doughy crust with red onions and parsley and garlic and, oh.give it a try if you go.
The Affogato was delicious, but as soon as I saw it on the menu and how small the cup was, I told the bartender (who was super friendly), "this sounds really dangerous! ". No doubt you shouldn't have it regularly, as it's an espresso with an added shot of vanilla ice cream. Good for your health? Not likely. Good for your taste buds and sweet tooth? M. Hm.
Other than the food being excellent, the staff was all friendly. It was pretty packed when I went, both inside and out, so if you don't like lots of people, maybe opt for take-out (the restaurant typically opens around 5pm). Given its location and the quality of the food, it's not a surprise it's a hit.
Wine was $16. Pizza was $21. Affogato was $6. Be prepared to splurge a little bit, but it's DC and the food is worth it. Also important to note that a 20% service charge was automatically included.
Overall, 5/5 stars from me. Chef's kiss
A wonderful institution
By the way, in addition to good food, there is real espresso here.
Loved the ambiance, the server was very friendly, and the food was great. Had lamb meatballs and a margherita pie.
Ridiculously overpriced pizza. Staff is extremely rude and unprofessional. Caesar salad is some ridiculous take on “lettuce” which I can only assume is to save money. Ironic considering this place charges $30 for a pizza and a 20% service charge.
Very decent pizza. 30 USD is about double the price what I would pay for a pizza of comparable quality in Europe.but this ain't Europe.
Good low key vibe on 14th street. Small plates and pizza. The hostess said they were more known for the drinks, but cannot comment on them. I ordered the fingerling potatoes, which were good. The garlic aioli was too pungent and had a bad after taste. The lamb and lentils was very good. They should offer more than 3 slices of bread to go with it. Margarita pizza was decent.
All purpose who? If we’re talking top 2 high end, chic pizza restaurants in DC. Etto is top 2 but not 2. The prosciutto and arugula pizza is completely on another level. Crust is cooked perfectly and the freshly cut in house prosciutto melts in your mouth. And if you’re above 21 you can continue reading… great wine, great service and don’t get me started on the espresso martini. Idk what is in it that’s not in a normal one but wow.good for you Etto. Finish it off with a tiramisu and a good nights sleep and it’s one of the best experiences of your year. Absolute shoutout to the chef and owner. 7895/10
Came for the amaro selection, stayed for the pizzas. I wish amaro flights were a thing. Possibly look into handmade pastas as well. The pizza dough is so good
