French entry ended English migration led to Louisiana purchase. Arnold hero of Saratoga (only battle in N. America, 10 top West. Civ.) opposed Washington and foreign invasion sought Dominion status, led to expansion of slavery. France sided w/Confederacy. France did not see return on investment. British knew the cost and France would pay more. Led to end of Monarchy. Money was real not a fabrication of industrial economy.

It's an incredible monument when viewed from across the park, but when you get right up next to it, the statue is substantially larger than I thought it was.

A beautiful piece of artwork right outside The White House that was established back in 1891!

A nice sculpture from an artistic point of view and an important symbol from the historical one

This is the other Frenchman who made such a valuable contribution to the Revolutionary War, that like Roschembeau, he was key to our Independence. His leadership, and courage led to our Freedom. France would never supported us without such men. Nor would we had ever seen victory without these two. It's befitting that they stand on either side of the White House.

Major General Marquis Gilbert de Lafayette is a statue in Lafayette Square, by Jean Alexandre Joseph Falguiere. The statue, which honors Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, was cast in 1890 and installed in April 1891.

Beautiful statue in the square right in front of the White House. Very interesting sculpture. I like coming here and appreciating the beauty of art and culture in Washington DC. Nice statue. I hope to come back and photograph it better during the daylight and show another side of this artistic piece.

It's good to walk this park and to stop by this monument, especially if you know who Lafayette was.
