This place is kinda on the Small side and a little difficult to get through if there’s enough people in there however that’s more than made up for by friendly staff and a great selection of Japanese snacks that I don’t see very often. I will definitely come back and thoroughly recommend it if you love Japanese snacks and other foods.

Hana is right on the corner of my block so for me it's more than a speciality shop, it's my local convenience store if I need a vegetable, tofu, rice, meat or fish at the last minute for dinner or something to take to a casual dinner with friends (everyone likes Pocky sticks). Really an great selection of high quality Japanese goods including sushi-grade frozen fish and fresh vegetables packed in a tiny space & prices compare with much bigger mega stores in the burbs. Photo is a meal entirely from Hana (except the lemon & red pepper) - my version of beach calamari. Hana is really an asset to the neighborhood.

Lovely market, be sure to make ample time for parking if you’re not walking or biking here. Many parking spaces are reserved for residents, for the police precinct, or there’s road construction. This probably doesn’t happen, I was overcharged when I was here. But it was quickly and kindly resolved when I came back. Thank you so much!

Hana Market is a hidden gem right in the heart of DC. They have a ton of specialty items for a small store — perfect if you need a few ingredients to make a Japanese dish in a pinch. The owners are also really nice and welcoming. I cannot recommend enough!

It’s small and cramped but they have a good selection of foods that are hard to find elsewhere in DC.

Wish DC had more Asian groceries or a metro accessible HMart but Hana Market is great to get all your basics!

A small but mighty corner shop, and a godsend for carless folks like me who aren't easily able to get to Eden Center, H-Mart, Lotte, and other such shopping stores/areas in the 'burbs.

I go to Hana about every three weeks to pick up rice, tofu (cheaper than what I've seen at Safeway, Whole Foods, Harris Teeter), cooking oils and sauces, etc. The produce and frozen foods selection is slim compared to the stores mentioned above.but you *can* get nasu (the long, slender eggplant), lotus root, gyoza, etc. I'm vegetarian so I can't speak to the meat offerings.

As other reviewers have mentioned, it's unbelievable how much they pack into this space. There are times when staff and customers have to maneuver around each other, but we make it work. The staff are also friendly and polite.

Legit Japanese market with good prices. Only place I buy rice from now. Good for your weeks groceries or a little snack/tea for walking around.

My happy place and a total DC gem! In DC where carlees folks don’t have easy access to Asian markets in the burbs, Hana is a godsend as a small and affordable market packed with so many goodies, from different sauces and condiments to noodles and a great variety of snacks and drinks. I like to pick up a snack I’ve never tried before and they are always tasty! They also have some ingredients that are not limited to just
Japanese. Japanese Kit Kats different matcha can be found in the back. They have a small but essential produce selection that
can include bitter melon, Asian eggplant, cabbage, green onions, seaweed, etc and they also have pork belly and thinly sliced beef. Hana also has onigiri or rice balls available after 1pm except for Tues and Weds. The people who own it and work there are friendly too! Can be busy on the weekend and it’s a teeny tiny space so be mindful.

Found some Japanese products that I can’t find at my local Hmart so this was a win! Also came for the onigiri for lunch and i was not disappointed

Small but high quality Japanese market. Highly recommend either for Japanese culinary needs/goods or just to stop in out of curiosity.

Street parkings are available across the street. Bring your bags otherwise you will have to pay for the bag fees.

It's been a couple of years since I've gone, but I'm in town visiting and walked by. Sadly it was closed but I was so excited to see it. Great place to get your Japanese candy fix.

One of favourite small businesses in DC. Beautiful selection of Japanese, Korean, and other East Asian specialty goods that you can't find at grocery stores in DC as well as nice produce and some household items. Very reasonable prices, too—competitive with some local grocery stores. Highly recommend supporting the owners!

Be prepared to spend some time here! The shelves are packed with anything you could want. They carry sashimi grade fish in the frozen section. Everyone is incredibly kind and helpful. They also get Thai Basil shipped in from CA weekly!

Cheaper than Rice Market with good selection considering a small shop. Will be my go-to for Asian groceries from now on in the city.
