India Gate Restaurant & Bar reviews
16 VERY DISAPPOINTING PLACE. It was my birthday and made a mistake to read on other reviews before going. I order Lamb Kabab and got Seekh Kabab. I told the staff that this is not the correct order and he said we dont have lamb kabab, try this it is very good.
Besides, the other food we got like chicken tandoori was more like fried chicken legs in oil. The side dishes are more Bangladeshi culture not Indian at all. Rice and Biryani was very low rated. It wasn't fresh I felt like it is from 3 days ago.
I always like giving small businesses a try. I'd rather spend my money with a local business owner. But the business must do the right thing.
The food is mediocre, if I'm being extremely kind. It's really bad. It's as if every sauce is just a slight modification of the same, dreary, watered down curry base.
The vegetable curry was a bland, watered-down soup of cauliflower and seemingly canned green beans. Horrible.
Clearly, most of the food has just been sitting around. I've never tasted a pakora this bad. NEVER. It tasted old and burnt.
While waiting for our food, I heard the distinctive "ding" of a microwave oven.
I really don't know why some people think they can actually run a restaurant. If you want to cook, at least study the craft. OR just hire a chef.
Hardworking family owned business. Food and flavor was excellent. We shared many plates and they were all good.
They showed a BAD IMAGE of India Gate which was SO DISAPPOINTING as an Indian. The ambience was DARK and dirty, carpet ugly, including the restroom. The quantity of the food was LESS compared to the price. After giving a sufficient tip, they straught way demanded for MORE TIPS! Indians visiting Washington DC, DO NOT EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT. Instead take the metro to Woodley Park and just on the opposite side, the best authentic Indian Cuisine is available there.
I would have given zero. The quantity were so small small, it can be a record. Their dish size is just small bowl (one third of regular size compared to typical Indian rest, qtr of generous size) with 17-18$ each dish, typically Indian household serves 3 to 4 dishes of this size to each person. Not sure if I were served from the leftover of regular thali dishes, $80 for 3 ppl? Taste is east indian style, home made style, no complain in that sense, but it is just we normally have in a regular day at home. If u don't want to waste your money don't go. I dont normally make negative reviews but this time I must.sorry India gate, i felt ripped off.
India Gate is a hidden gem off DuPont Circle. Family run, the service is friendly and attentive. Most importantly, the food is delicious and well-portioned — we ordered Korma and Vindaloo and were very happy. My mango lassi was freshly puréed (so good!) and they have a full bar, which was great for my husband (who had a 22oz Taj Mahal lager). Will definitely return when we’re back in town.
It was so bad I ordered the mango shrimp while I waited for my fiance to come out of the embassy across the street and I was served what I assume is frozen shrimp from a bag covered in mango chutney the problem is the shrimp had gone old.
Do not eat here. Worst indian food i ever ate. Too much costly for the quantity. May be this is reason, there are no customers. Zero star is the appropriate rating here. Same person is the waiter, same person is cook.
We ordered through doordash expectation was high, but needs more improvement. Disappointed sorry!
I really don't like the food. I'm from punjab I know those taste.but this is really bad experience
Worst food! Taken advantage on people hunger and providing worst food. Expired and smelled food served. Very sad doing business in name of india gate
DO NOT EAT HERE. This is the worst Indian food I have ever ordered - possibly the worst food I have ever been served. Went to pick up the food when they said it would be ready and it wasn’t ready until about 45 min later. AND the restaurant was completely empty. We also received a suspicious call from the restaurant asking if we could confirm the credit card number when we had already paid online. The owner then told us we did not leave a big enough tip and made us walk to an atm to take out cash. When we finally got the food it was all terrible. Two chicken dishes, saag paneer, and garlic naan. We ordered 3 garlic naans and received three tiny pieces that were not garlic. The food was watery, flavorless, and disgusting. We ordered the food spicy and it was sweet. Hoping we don’t get food poisoning. Couldn’t eat much of it at all and had to order from somewhere else. On top of all this it was relatively expensive. Listen to all the reviews and don’t order here! Starting to think this restaurant is a front for something else.
As a desi, this is such a disappointment. I’ve never had worse Indian food in my life. It pains me to say this as someone who wants to support small businesses but you’re better off going to Trader Joe’s and heating up a frozen butter chicken. At least you’ll get rice with your order. Way too expensive for what you get.
The food is terrible! I’ve lived in the US for over 20 years & this is the worst Indian food I’ve eaten
Worst food I had ever pushed in. I ordered for butter naan. Instead I got plain naan.and was not even a naan.was like paapad. And bhindi masala was like bhindi jhool. Maybe in house u can have little better food but guys NEVER ever order online. Sorry. But disappointed.
We stopped in on a quiet Sunday a few weeks ago and the couple that own the restaurant helped us pick a few dishes and we enjoyed it very much! Hospitable owners with great food.
