Japanese Restaurant Kotobuki reviews
19 I must say, dining at this restaurant made me feel like I’m back home in Japan. Despite the inconvenient location and the outdated indoor decor, I was very impressed by the quality of food. I had mackerel oshizushi and eel kamameshi. Both were so good that they could be served in Japan.
I highly recommend trying the kamameshi, as you can’t eat this authentic Japanese dish anywhere in the DMV area, or even on the East Coast.
A true hidden gem in DC. The entry is really sober but come in, you will not be disappointed. The fish is really fresh, the food is awesome and the service is fast and courteous.
It's a 10/10 for me.
The best sushi around… sadly I called to put in a pick up order at 830 pm and they said they were closed. But online hours state 9 pm
Good breakfast if you're not in a hurry. Almost always a line of tourists since all nearby hotels recommend them. Their swedish pancakes are good.
Really high quality and fresh fish. Great service and clean preparation. Everything was super tasty. Non-fish options are limited, in case you were thinking of bringing someone who doesn’t do raw fish or fish in general. Otherwise, wide variety and really tasty. Will definitely be back!
The restaurant is located on 2nd floor. Sushi is fresh and tasty. Overall quality of sushi is good. Waitress is super polite as well. Worth to try!
Honestly wasn’t super impressed by the eel dish. It was good, but the flavors were rather bland and it was not a lot of eel for the price. I appreciated the side dishes though. The chirashi was fresh but nothing out of the ordinary
One of the best Japan restaurant in Washington DC.
Small, authentic, best service, friendly people, perfect Food, Fooddesign and atmosphere.
Qualität war perfect. Der Chef ist sehr nett.
Perfekte Zubereitung von Speisen.
Ein total gelungener Abendessen mit der Familie.
Ein tolles Familien Essen.
Wir werden gerne wieder kommen.
Wenn wir in Washington sind.
Es war ein schönes Abendessen.
Excellent sushi and wonderful staff. The sushi here is some of the freshest I've had in DC. Rolls always have generous portions of fish, but the salmon, yellowtail, and toro sushi are a highlight (the Toro is so rich, I wouldn't recommend having more than one in a sitting!) Prices are more than reasonable. I look forward to eating from here again.
Cozy little Japanese restaurant in the Palisades neighborhood. I'd say it's my favorite Japanese restaurant in the DC area. The prices are quite reasonable and the food is authentic. My favorite dish is the unadon (unagi donburi).
One of my Japanese colleagues recommended this place as an authentic Japanese experience. I fully agreed! Clam Kamameshi is a real deal. This place may not meet expectation of somewhat high-end sushi place. However, speaking of authentic flavor, this is the real place. Amazingly, the small side dishes come with Kamameshi offer a full flavor with umami. Definitely, will visit this place again and again.
Hidden little gem of a place that's actually been around forever. Friendly fast service, but more importantly, fresh, delicious, neatly prepared sushi. This place is all quality and no flash. If you've ever been to a slick DC resteraunt and wondered if you are paying more for the marketing and hip decorations than for the food, this is your spot.
Nice little authentic Japanese eatery. Chirashi and Unagidon were both excellent. Kamameshi is their real specialty, and it comes with sashimi and 3 side dishes. I do not recommend Chicken Kamameshi, though, unless you are OK with ground instead of diced chicken. Their sushi is also quite good in ingredients but a bit lacking in craftsmanship.
An absolutely amazing gem of a restaurant. If you want quality japanese cuisine in a cozy environment - hit this place up. You will not be disappointed.
Best sushi happy hour in DC and some of the best period. The best eel I’ve had, and definitely try the spicy white tuna roll. Amazing hidden gem.
Awesome little sushi spot. Great for a quick lunch or dinner take-out. Best neighborhood sushi spot in the DC area.
My wife and I always get the chirashi sushi whenever we try out a new-to-us sushi restaurant and the one we had here was one of the best in the DMV that we've tried. Very nice service and the food was ready promptly on time. We'll be back!
I love this place and I'm so happy they pulled through the pandemic.
The cozy dining area always makes the meal feel relaxed and intimate and the sushi is some of the best in the city. They have a pretty standard assortment of rolls and nigiri and will also make temaki upon request (the menu also has a few other things, dumplings, noodles, grilled meats, etc, but honestly, the sushi's so good I've never ordered anything else)
Such a great spot, definitely have plans to visit a few more times this summer.
I've been coming here since I was a kid and they service has always been amazing and the food has been splendid. It's been my favorite restaurant for years now.
