Italian Restaurant Lavagna reviews
13 To Grant the manager. There was no need to speak to me and my partner the way you did and i can only speculate as to why you thought we were deserving of such vitriol. We booked a reservation online and turns out when we arrived the online boo
incorrect and reserved a timed they weren’t open. Totally understandable. Things happen. We would have left. But Grant decided to berate, belittle, and condescend to me: telling me he already told me this (this is my first time here), assuming my name (he may have had this issue with someone before), and speak to me like a child that didn’t listen to instruction. It was just unnecessary. It was an online booking issue with the platform the restaurant utilizes but I was dressed down by this grown man to the point of near tears. I didn’t deserve that. No one deserves that. He needs anger management or something because a booking error should not result in you raising your voice. When we walked out a man passing by asked if everything was okay cause even he was concerned with how Grant spoke to me.
LOVE this place! Really great, tasty, well-made Italian classics in a homey neighborhood atmosphere with extremely friendly service. If you’re looking for an Italian dinner in the area with reasonable prices, this is a perfect option.
We made a reservation because Lavagna advertised live jazz the first Friday of every month. When I made the reservation, I asked to be seated to hear the music. The musicians were friends of mine.
When we got to the restaurant, we were told that the music was in the bar: but no food was served in the bar. The maitre d' was, at best, nasty. We left. We won't go back.
My fiancé and I went to Lavagna for Date night located in SE DC. It’s been on my list to try for a while. The host staff was very friendly when seating us and taking our order. We tried the Bruschetta and Apple Salad for our starter before getting into the entrees. The Apple Salad was my favorite dish. I tried the Rigatoni Italian Sausage and she had the Carbonara. The food was good but it was missing that X factor. I really liked the old school 80s style theme they have. We enjoyed ourselves there.
Unfortunately we may have just gone on an off night, but my wife and I did not enjoy our meals tonight. I got the bison short rib and my wife got the lamb ragu and the food just didn’t taste fresh, and the flavors weren’t there. It was as if our meals got a quick microwave and then served to us. We were excited to go because of the great reviews, but the meal itself wasn’t to the standard we were expecting. The ambiance in the place was nice overall, but we won’t be going back.
Food good.we were early and not busy. Like table in the back.we had lobster bisque, Spaghetti carbonara and Rigatoni Italian sausage were excellent.
Chandler was wonderful. He checked in often without being overwhelming and made sure that we wanted for nothing. The portions are generous and definitely don't miss the ravioli!
We had an Italian brunch/lunch on Saturday. The outdoor seats were limited and mostly taken, so we decided to sit indoor by the window.
I ordered the goat cheese omelette, which was rich in flavor and had a great portion. The ice coffee was decent.
My friend ordered Italian sausage gravy, and the taste was a bit plain for us but I think it's just how Italian likes to eat, and it fitted well with the provided ketchup or hot sauce.
Overall, the food and service were all good, and I deem the price were fair for what we were offered.
Had mimosa and their Frittata for brunch. Their claim of all fresh ingredients was evident as their vegetables certainly were. Wife had their Eggs Benedict and they were excellent as well. Will definitely return and if you're in the area, give them a try. Will not disappoint.
We have been here many times thru the years, often on important days like Mother's Day. Tonight was likely our last time. The food was poor - undercooked, salty. Understaffed. We never send food back, but did tonight. What came back was no better. Sad to see this place slide downhill. Maybe just an off night. But service was not attentive at all. Rarely complain to waitstaff. But this was not a good experience.
I first came here on a recommendation from a friend who lived in the area several years ago. Was amazing freshly made pasta. I’ve come since every couple of years and the quality has gone down each time. The pappardelle lamb used to be great. Was a wet pool of under seasoned thick pasta last night. Focaccia was dry and cold. The short ribs were tough, sweet, and not fall off the bone. None of the four of us finished our meal, which says everything. Last night was the last time for me.
Our destination wasn't open so we stopped here. Our meal was exquisite and the service superb.
This is 100% the best Italian food in DC. It’s such a homey Italian vibe, like you’re in Italy, yet still has the elevated feeling of a high end restaurant at the same time. The food was incredible, service was amazing, and wine was delicious. Will be coming back often.
