Marx Cafe Revolutionary Cuisine, Washington DC

Would STRONGLY recommend this bar both for the drinks and food. I've ordered here about 5-6 times (both beer and late night fare). The menu offerings - which include standard European fare such as calamari, sauteed fish with boiled vegetables, and lemon soup - were of the quality you'd expect from a 4-star restaurant or esteemed private chef. Marx Cafe also offers an expansive choice of alcohol, including multiple on tap beers. Its open late and offers an array of sporting events on large-screen TVs on either end of the bar. Its the perfect place to watch West coast or light night NBA and NFL games!

The place has some of the best food, and live acts in the neighborhood. Manny the server is so nice. Going back when I'm in the DC area again.

Food's not bad, but picking up your takeout order is not COVID safe at all. Wish they had a window and/or a place to wait outside.

I love Marx cafe. The hummus is perfect and the beer is exactly what you need, but the best part is the ambiance. They really hit it out of the park with an authentically European vibe. They didn’t line the walls with kitschy communism propaganda (though I would support a cafe that did that). Instead they just make you feel like you might be in a Utopia outside of Mt Pleasant and DC and even the US. To a distant place where the beer is cheap conversation is thoughtful and everything is just a bit slower. (Full disclosure: the beer is still regular DC prices)

I cannot speak for the rest of the food. But great atmosphere and service. I enjoyed the sunset while drinking a beer and enjoying their calamari! I would definitely come again.

The food is meh. I keep wanting the food here to be better than it is. The taramasalata is clearly from a jar. And the burgers are pretty persistently overcooked.

The food is a rough 2 stars. My partner and I both ordered pasta and it was close to flavorless. The shrimp in my shrimp scampi were more than overcooked/extremely chewy. The "sauce" was closer to shrimp water which collected on the side of the plate. The pesto chicken pasta was lacking in flavor and salt. The chicken in the pasta was clearly cooked hours ago and re-heated because it was stiff and chewy without flavor. Will 100% be back for drinks and to hang out but the menu/recipes could use a revamp. Focus on 6-8 items that you do well and perfect those. Maybe the burgers are good but from what we saw they looked like they use frozen patties.

Best bar in the area. No frills and half the bill of some places nearby. Service is swift, helpful, and down to earth. Food is great, they don’t cut corners. Go for the Greek burger.

We love this place. Bartenders are always friendly and they have a good selection of beer on tap. Such a great neighborhood spot in Mt. Pleasant!

*COVID review*

Marx has plenty of outdoor seating in their streatery (?) and the tables and chairs are well spaced. This place is always great for its no frills selection of beers and wines. I haven't had the food but the menu seems Greek / Italian-ish which will be delicious one day.

We had a great dinner and wonderful drinks. The bartender was amazing and the owner came to check on how our visit was going. I will definitely be back. Monday movie night was amazing!

Love this spot in my neighborhood. Place to grab a bite or a drink with no fuss. I highly recommend.

The food is average or a bit bettee. However it has one of the best Happy Hours in the cities with drinks specials and 1/2 price appetizers that can create a meal.

Very cute, nice place. Poor vegan options and out of the two beers I wanted. I hope they get them back. More vegan options are also necessary, especially considering animals are the most oppressed class and any revolution must be egalitarian and ecological.
