National Portrait Gallery reviews
16Amazing place. So fortunate to have such a great selection of art to view. A true treasure to see. You can tell the curators really care about their work
Came here with friends from out of town. Plenty of artwork to explore. We came to see the latest portrait of Oprah. The atrium is one of the best spots in the city to read, do some work, catch up with friends, or just reflect!
With a collection of over 23000 works of art, this is one of those places you can go to regularly and always see something new. Admission is free and it’s open 1130AM to 7PM daily with the exception of Christmas. There are multiple tours that occur daily, the website detailing those, a free audio tour, as well as regular events. There is a shop and a cafe. I love the large open area near the cafe - sunny and just a great place to hang out.
Love this museum. One of my favorite art museums in town. I also really like how they offer critiques and contextualize the problematic aspects of some of our nation's historical figures. The curators have taken a lot of care to provide a great educational experience for all visitors.
Great location right next to the Gallery Pl Chinatown metro station. Very friendly and helpful staff at the entrance lobby. Great to stop by if dining in the area or before a game at Capitol One Arena. We have come here a few times to explore half a floor at a time, and still a lot left to see. There is also always something different with the special exhibitions. My favorite so far is the presidential portrait gallery.
I stopped in because I was staying across the street. I spent thirty minutes at the museum and felt that was enough for me. It's free!
Easy self guided tour. The information desk was very helpful with pointing us in the right direction
It's the National Portrait Gallery! Many incredible works of art from paintings to sculpture. Has a great event hall also. Good parking options nearby.
There is a lot to see, but I raced over after my meeting. Straight for the butterfly pavilion which does cost money to enter, but since it was the last showing I got the exhibit to myself. Definitely could have spent the whole day here.
Don’t snooze in the presidential portraits. Wish I had more time and I hadn’t ventured this way last.
If you want to learn more about all of the U. S.presidents, this is the place to go in DC. There is one (or sometimes more) portrait of each president with a capsule biography of each, in English and Spanish.
Highly recommended! Free Smithsonian museum, full of gorgeous artworks, paintings and photographs.
We always enjoy the portrait gallery. Nixon by Norman Rockwell is a good one. Also posting Obama, Dubya and Clinton in a single shot, and Trump and Clinton in a single shot.
Cannot finish in a day! But take your time, there’s something for everyone to appreciate and learn from.
We recently visited the Smithsonian Art Museum and was pleasantly surprised to find a free tour guide service available. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and led us through the vast collection in an engaging and informative manner.
Various wonderful portrait paintings are fascinating and worth savoring.
Especially the opening hours are in the evening, unlike other museums that close almost at 5 or 5: 30, so people can have more time to visit, which is great
