Old Ebbitt Grill reviews
19I loved this place. The service was great. I wish I remembered his name. But the food was really good, the drinks were really stellar tho, and I love a buzzing atmosphere. Def would recommend.
The food the service the atmosphere was excellent. The only complaint is that they don't enforce the dress code.
People come and flip-flops and short. That's very inappropriate for the money you paid to dinner there.
The server was better dressed up the They patrons.
Loved this place! Old school warmth, lots of history, great staff & delicious food. Had the Rockefeller baked oysters and a half dozen on ice. Delicious. Highly recommend!
Ask for a table in the back bar, it’s quieter and more intimate. Our server was on point with keeping our glasses filled and our food arriving at just the right time for our next course (kudos to the kitchen). Mussels were fresh and the broth tasty (could’ve used a few more for the price, but shrinkage is real; won’t order again for this reason), crab cakes were awesome with very little filler and some good sized lumps, burger was actually medium rare and the fries hot, mom was happily with her vegetarian lentil burger, and our desserts (brownie sundae and bread pudding were delicious!
This place was packed, and I can see why. Each item we ordered was done really well. Spinach and artichoke dip was great, the crab cake was awesome with large chunks of crab. The steak was cooked perfectly.the soup was divine.
Service was really good, we ended up sitting at the bar because waiting for a table would have taken too long. It didn't matter though, the bartender was on top of her game. The drinks she recommended were sublime.
The only drawback is that it seems like a lot of "industry" people probably come here. It reeked of old money and people who won't fart in front of their loved ones. I let a few rip right on those stuffy losers just for good measure.
I would still recommend this place to anyone.
This place was so fun! We couldn’t get a reservation because it is ALWAYS busy and good reason. A very historic building and DC bar scene. Went before Christmas so very festive in decor and crowd. We’re from Texas, so of course tried the chili- well it was a bit sweet which is a Cincinnati flair-good but not our fav. Also had a pastrami & burger which were great! We sat at one of the bars and lucked out with a fantastic bartender and were surrounded by former employees visiting. Cocktails ensued along with great conversation. Had the best time and we recommend this spot to anyone going to DC. It is across the street from the White House, in the middle of the action. You have to stop by when in DC…won’t be disappointed!
I get the tourist trap standpoint, but if you live in DC you have to go here, the atmosphere is great, and The bartender was awesome. You feel the DC history in here, fun spot.
The service was exceptional, the staff was attentive and friendly throughout our dining experience. As for the food, it was absolutely delicious! Each dish we ordered was expertly prepared and presented beautifully. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience.
Iconic place that goes back to the era when bars were a luxury in DC. The management (that also handles Clyde's in Georgetown) keeps the vibes in the "old fashioned" space. Food is sometimes not at the level of the prices, that are high.
First, I enjoy going to this restaurant for a late night meal. However, I visited this restaurant on 1/18/24. The bartender Alex was rude
and unprofessional (barely acknowledging me and slamming the condiments on the bar). Not to mention mixing up the order and then got upset. I assumed he was having a bad night, but when another customer sat down beside me he was very friendly offering free champagne and explained the specials on the late night menu. As I walked out the door Alex yelled at me because he did not get a good tip. I explained the service was horrible and I tipped him accordingly. I reached out to management “Yousef” he handled my concerns right away.
Worth a visit to this historic restaurant, the steak & fritts were fantastic. Highly recommend - Great drinks!
Simply exquisite. The oysters were divine, the steak cooked perfectly and the drinks were bursting with flavor, not to mention the impeccable service! 10 out of 10. Highly recommend!
Went out with a few friends who recommended the crab cakes. They were the best crab cakes I ever had, and I further indulged in the clam chowder soup. Excellent! The atmosphere was perfect and the service excellent. I hope to do visit again on my next trip to the DC area.
Very cool place. Reasonable prices for a steakhouse. Love that they had anchovies on the menu as a starter
A twenty minute wait turned into an hour+ wait. We constantly were checking with the hostesses to see where our name was on the list and every time they replied ‘you’re up next’ but plenty of equal sized tables (party of 3,4, & 5) were called before our party of 4. When talking again to the hostesses, they informed us that there were reservations that were being sat before us, but when we called earlier in the week to make a reservation we were told there are no reservations made at 5pm on a Saturday.
The only saving grace of this experience was our server Robert ‘Bob’ S. He introduced the menu beautifully and once we voiced our rush to a show in an hour he wrote down our menu choices and drinks. The appetizer was out in 10 minutes with our drinks and the entrees were placed 10 minutes after that.
Due to our rush, we were unable to order our desired meals because they would have taken longer to make and eat. We had sandwiches and salads which were delicious. We look forward to coming back to taste our original picks.
Not having lived in the dc area for 15 years, i always find it tough to find good quality restaurants near the Capitol. This restaurant exceeded my expectations in every way. Phenomenal food, the crab dip was amazing!
Our waiter was extremely kind and thoughtful and very prompt with refills.
The price was also fairly reasonable for DC.
This is a nice restaurant if you want to treat yourself to a little bit fancier dinner or brunch. Their crab cakes and steaks are yummy!
Sadie is the most incredible bartender. She is also a mixologist and created several cocktails on the menu. Sadie made our meal at the bar a 10/10 and so so memorable. Could not recommend OEG more, particularly if you get lucky enough to be there on her shift.
They sat us in the backside outside the original restaurant. The atmosphere is totally different from the original restaurant restaurant.
