Indian Restaurant Pappe reviews
21We had dinner at Pappe in November. The waiters were very friendly and helped us in our choices. The main course was accompanied by very tasty Naanbread (butter & garlic) and we also tasted a twist of the traditional crème brûlée which was okay. The prices are, in comparison with other restaurants, maybe a bit a high and the service (20%) is already included but for us it was worth it.
Take this from an Indian — one of the best places in DC to go to for Indian food. Ask them for their cardamom gelato! Beautifully textured and perfectly sweetened.
Great experience, great food for all. Lamb chops and fried cauliflower were a great combo. You will have a great dining experience.
Man we loved the level this Indian food achieves. It was super special with its and sauces were abundant to soak up more rice before I almost licked the plate.
Pappe is one of my go to restaurants in DC. The chilean sea bass allepy curry, junglee laal maas and chicken pista korma are all delectable. The new winter seasonal dishes are great. Definitely recommend Pappe!
Outstanding food and staff! Every time I have come here I have felt welcome and satiated. The warm atmosphere and impeccable service is truly unrivaled. The food comes out with all the authenticity and comfort I look for in Indian cuisine. Hats off to the chef, cooks, servers, bartenders, and managers that all contribute to orchestrating this symphony of Indian cuisine.
P. S. Get the cocktails, they are truly wonderful!
I wish I could give six stars! My girlfriend said after the meal "I ate so much Pappe I had to take a napE because it was so yummE! " She is asleep right now in my Lamborghini outside of the charity function I donate big cashola to.
Great ambience and friendly staff, however agree that food quality is not up to par like the other famous places - one way to know this is the availability of reservations! Chutneys were good though mint is quite spicy!
Cons: quite expensive, over $75 per person, no thali option for dinner, very small tables with not enough room, overcrowded on Thursday night, not many vegetarian options, sorry, did not work for me so cannot recommend.
We booked a table in the main dining room as we wanted a nice picture for our holiday. On arrival we were told that we would be sitting outside with no explanation. We sat and waited for 25 minutes and no server came to take our order. We then asked a lady who was placing water on the tables for a server and she indicated she would go and get one but never did. We therefore ended up leaving which was a real shame. We noticed that a 20 % service charge was automatically added to the bill and think this is why the servers don’t really care about attending to the tables promptly.
Overall good experience with tasty food, much of which was shared in our party of 6. My only dissatisfaction was with the lamb biryani. The meat was so tough as to be almost inedible.
The best lamb biryani I’ve ever had. I tried Lamb biryani in different countries (Dubai, UAE, Istanbul, Turkey.etc.) but this Pappe DC proved me that they had the best. Kudos to the chef.i will definitely come back when i go to DC.
This is one of the best restaurants I have eaten in this year. The drinks were excellent and beautifully presented. The food was fragrant, perfectly portioned and beautifully presented. The restaurant, itself is magical. The decor is exquisite and yet comfortable. But the best thing about Pappe is the staff. They all constantly helped each other without anyone of them ever having to ask for help. They worked seamlessly together like a family that authenticly likes and respect each other. It's such a rare thing to see in a restaurant. And the happiness and cogeniallity of the staff create an atmosphere of warmth that made everything even more enjoyable. I am so impressed.
Paneer Tikka was awesome! So i would assume Chicken Tikka would also be good … Dal Makhni was great too!
The naan was unbelievable! Both types we got were super yummy. Everything was good. I wasn’t a big fan of the mango mojito but everyone else loved it.
They charge you a mandatory 22% service charge, EVEN IF YOU ARE DINING ALONE! Absolutely ridiculous. Prices are crazy high for the food to be ok-tasting.
I did not have much expectation when I got in but food was awesome. One of the best biriyani I had.
All reviews are bought. Dont trust all these reviews. Worst service, the service guy was rude. Food is not tasty at all.
The ambience was great and the food was fine - BUT the service was super slow AND they included a 22% tip in the bill! They were slow to take our order, they forgot our drinks until we reminded them about it after we got our entrees, and we had to ask them 3 times to get water.
What an amazing gem in DC! I’m a big foodie from India and haven’t found a lot of mind blowing Indian restaurants in the US (except NYC). I’m only visiting DC for work so this was my first time here and I LOVED everything - the food is so good that every time I’m here, this place is going to be at the top spot on my to-do list. I ordered the Goan Smoke drink and that delicious too. They figured I was visiting so served the dessert (which was also mind blowing by the way - tres leches) on the house. The Indian hospitality comes with the amazing food they serve and I loved it. The owner was super sweet and warm. I’m coming here every time I’m in DC and recommending it to everyone.
Butter chicken, rice, garlic naan, and mango lassi were all as good as it gets. Highly disappointed with rabdi however, it was a rabdi flavored cake really, I took 1 bite and called it a day, why even mess around with such a classic desert.
