PILAR DC reviews
16My first going and I enjoyed the coziness feel. The food and service was great. Can't wait to go back with friends.
You cannot go wrong with this. OMG the food and service are on Point. Definitely coming back. Thank you to the staff for such a Great time.
Nice spot to stop by and get a drink. Service was great and the drinks were pretty good. Didn't get a chance to try the food but the menu looked good.
Terrible customer service by the manager Ulysses and the waiter upstairs (not the bartender). We ask him questions and he acts like we’re inconveniencing him. Asked him for our separate checks and he brings one and says he doesn’t separate checks and then just slaps the checks on the table. Now, Ulysses comes when we asked for a manager to share our experience and he just stares at us and says “well is there anything else? ” No apology or anything. This was a very weird and upsetting experience. NOW the general manager, Natalie, is EVERYTHING. We love her energy and vibe which makes it weird that her staff doesn’t have the same energy. She is the ONLY reason why I’m leaving 3 stars. She definitely made it better.
Love this bar-it's cozy, the staff is nice, they have solid drinks and food-but man it gets so crowded and the upstairs is for sit-down eating only! Just wish that both the up and downstairs were open for casual eating/bar service. But it's a really nice space!
From start to finish my experience was great! My friends and I had brunch here a few weeks ago and we all enjoyed it. Order the fried chicken and pancakes. They’re delicious!
The WORST experience. Upstairs bar was rude. Barely anyone in his section. Got my order wrong after we waited forever. Then waited again for my shrimp. Told us he would switch to hiphop when all the “white” ppl leave. I actually enjoyed the music. Won’t be returning. I really didn’t even want to tip bc woah. Nice cup though.
Bar Pilar is a narrow bar with an upstairs dining room. We ate downstairs in the bar. It's a bar, so was a little noisy, but were still able to have a nice conversation. Service was excellent. The food was fantastic, both in presentation and how it tasted. We had the roasted vegetables, butter chicken and a dumpling appetizer - all wonderful. The cocktails were tasty and had enough alcohol in them to justify the price. I don't think you can go wrong eating here unless you are looking for someplace really quiet. I never went upstairs.
Great bar with a fantastic atmosphere, delicious drinks, and friendly staff. Swung by after brunch this last weekend and ended up staying for several hours and had a blast. Not my first time there, definitely not my last.
If you want to go to a place that’s out of everything, wait for over an hour to have one drink and chips w guac, be served in dirty glasses, and be insulted by the bartender who ignores your party all night, this is the place! Just not what I’m looking for in my Saturday nights out. Lots of choices out there, folks. Choose wisely. Never ever going back.
Wonderful Bar and restaurant. Everything tastes great. The drinks were good and the staff are so friendly and professional. Highly recommend.
I've been going here for years, stopping in between show at the Black Cat, and it has never disappointed. The service is friendly, first-class all the way. Chip is an absolute gentleman and is one of the many fantastic bartenders at this fine establishment. 10/10 will drink here again!
Drinks were incredibly sweet, I ordered a penicillin which is normally scotch, ginger and lemon and it tasted like lemonade. Ordered the hush puppies for a group of 4 and it came with 3 small balls of dough. Unless you like overly sweet drinks and sending back your food, go somewhere else.
Though a (former?) DC staple, having gone recently for brunch and cocktails on different days I think they might have lost their vision. Okay food, okay drinks, loud music inside (though we asked them to turn it down for brunch when we were the only ones inside). Would still go back!
Ordered food, waited over an hour. Still no food. Finally got the hush puppies I ordered as an appetizer. There were only two and I paid $13. This is an issue. Going on an hour and a half, still no food.
Please close Bar Pilar until you have enough staff to service the restaurant. I have been to Bar Pilar multiple times with many great experiences. Today we had the worst experience and it falls directly on managements shoulders.
One waiter had to staff the entire second floor of the restaurant, while also bar tending the first floor and an additional restaurant next door.
Our food came out 45 minutes late, the drinks had close to no alcohol in them, and other tables were talking about how bad the service was because it was so poorly understaffed.
Bar Pilar management: do not open again unless you have adequate staff who can handle holiday weekend crowds.
