Pretty interesting. Did not know it was there. Visitor center has a lot of info. The cottage was cool but thought there would be more to it.

We had a very pleasant visit to President Lincoln's Cottage and I highly recommend you visit!

We booked a tour for "stories on the lawn" that was led by Cameron who told us all about the history of the cottage, Lincoln's time there and the use of the rest of the 41+ acres in the heart of Washington D. C.which currently houses The Soldiers and Sailors retirement home (for 400+ veterans) and a D. C. Charter School. She was very educational and helped bring the home to life (even though we couldn't visit inside - a bummer!)

The cemetery tour was great. Thankfully, for us, it involved a little bit of walking, both on the grounds and outside the gates along a rather busy road in D. C. Our guide, Blake, was excellent in recounting lots of information, facts and figures, but even more, REAL and compelling stories of the people memorialized here. Again, worth a visit!

President Lincoln's Cottage is an off-the-beaten-path museum in Northwest Washington, D. C.near Petworth. It's on the campus of the Armed Forces Retirement Home so you'll need to purchase a ticket beforehand to get through security. During COVID-19, they offer daily outdoor safe distance tours of the grounds for $13.50 per adult ticket starting at 10AM. The tour itself lasts between 35-45 minutes and it takes you to the actual cottage used by four presidents and the original building of the Armed Forces Retirement Home. The tour guides are engaging and Johnny even made it interesting for my toddler daughter (she got in for free). Once the pandemic ends, the indoor museum will reopen.

Kevin was our guide and he made the cottage come alive with his presentation. Listening to first hand accounts of activities that took place there.placing events into the historic context of the civil war.and understanding what DC was like in Lincoln’s time were all very interesting. It’s not about the furniture but the people. Everyone who is interested in American history should take this tour.

Although it is an interesting experience to see Lincoln's summer home and learn about his ideas, the place is just a cottage. There are no pieces of furniture or any interior decoration of any kind. Our tour guide was quite knowledgeable about Lincoln history, but lack of any physical objects inside the cottage leaves everything to your imagination. Interior decoration of that period could be procured/replicated and placed inside, for a better visual experience.

Excellent off-the-beaten-path experience for those who want to know more about the personal family life of our sixteenth president, his wife, and his son!

This is a neighborhood place I have meant to check out for awhile now. I really enjoyed the museum and the history of the compound. There is an art exhibit in the cottage featuring incarcerated artists from various prisons. This was a very pleasant surprise and I enjoyed the artwork immensely. I was not expecting an art show so it felt as though I didn't get the Lincoln history experience I was expecting, so I will return for that another time. All in all, it is a gorgeous sanctuary in the middle of DC and I will continue to go there just for the tranquility of the grounds and the spectacular architecture.

A moving experience to visit the Summer Home of President Lincoln! Had an excellent tour given by Cameron! And I learned a lot of new information about Pres. Lincoln and his family.

I’ve been here a number of times to set up wedding flowers so I only know this location as a wedding venue, and it’s a great one at that. The location is easily accessible, the staff are helpful, and the grounds are perfectly laid out for a wedding. Definitely a good option to consider for weddings in the DMV!

Beautiful area. Not as accessible by metro but there is a bus that runs up & down hill. It's a mile walk both ways. Museum itself was fascinating look into lincoln's private life. Tour was great & very interesting

Was there for a wedding in the yard and reception in the cottage. Beautiful location. Can understand why it was Lincoln's summer cottage.

Guided tour through the mansion is slightly disappointing: half of the tour shares stories from Lincoln's stay in the cottage, but the other half was mostly to interact and ask opinions. It would have been interesting to learn more about actual period informational (was of living for instance).
Tour on Sunday morning didn't sell out: can buy on site.
Worth arriving at least 30 minutes before tour to read through the galleries.
No cafe/bistro on site (a pod cafe machine available only, no sitting area)
Large parking lot, free, and kids playground onsite.

Beautiful ground! Definitely worth seeing. Guides are very knowledgeable and have a lot of great stories to tell. It is amazing how big this place is in the middle of DC. Feels like you are in a totally different place

Most of the original details are gone and it's incredibly hot during the summer. There was also a lack of furniture and you are forced to do a guided tour.

This was a really interesting tour. There was a focus on the implications of Lincoln's time there as well as the emotions he went through as a president and as a human being, rather than just facts and history about the location. Kevin was a GREAT tour guide. He was interactive without being pushy, so it's a fun tour for those who like to speak up and those who don't! Definitely recommend.
