Rodman's, Washington DC

Great store with super cool wine dept.but they need more real organic wines. Some No Added Sulfite wines would be good.

An interesting selection of food & non-food items often found nowhere else. The prices are reasonable & the employees helpful & efficient. The basement level is a great place to find items you didn't know you needed.

Oh how I love this place! International delights! Foods that one can find only at Rodman’s. Yes, they can be expensive, but still irresistible!
Problem with cashiers because they do not know merchandise and how to handle register.

I visited the Washington DC location today for the very first time. My elderly uncle told us about this drugstore because he sometimes play his lottery there. He informed us that downstairs have household items and it’s a small business establishment. I was like cool, I am a Washingtonian and have a small business as well. I believe in supporting small businesses. While they were in the store helping me find certain items, my uncle and husband came to me feeling uncomfortable. They felt like they were being profiled in this store. As I was shopping for household items, after a while I felt the same way. I asked one of the staff member what was his position at the store. He pointed to his apron (aggressively) that shows the establishment name. I ask him again, because he was just posting around drinking coffee. He kept pointing to his apron and said are you my manager I don’t have to answer to you I informed him that he and the other employee (Aster) were monitoring folks every move, assuming that we were there for reasons other than to make a purchase. When he kept saying I don’t have to answer you with a very nasty disposition, my husband was livid at that point. I am not sure if his position is to monitor non-white customers that visit this store but they most definitely wasn’t monitoring the white customers. My husband and I have professional jobs and I have a small business as well. We can afford ANYTHING inside this store, but for them to make us feel uncomfortable due to our skin tone is unacceptable These foreign workers are the worst and I know the next time not to spend my money at an establishment that supports this kind of behavior

I wrote this review a couple of weeks ago and no one from this establishment reached out to me to apologize, thank me for spending my hard earned money in their establishment, NOTHING! I assumed the behavior my family received matched the management and owner of Rodman's. I don't care where your establishment is located, you will find trifling and messy folks everywhere.

It's a convenience store that's bigger than first appearances. Food and beverages, including a large wine section (caveat: I don't drink) are upstairs and a pharmacy/other items are downstairs. Prices aren't unreasonable, and there's a pretty good selection. It's a good stop for a quickie shop.

The only grocer in DC that I'm aware of that imports so many delicacies from around the world.

Will never step foot in here again! I stopped in after work to get a bottle of wine. Spent 15 minutes comparing and looking for the best one. I get to check out, and a random employee comes up and says “no she has bottles in her bag”… referring to my tote that has a SOUP canister in it from lunch. UNACCEPTABLE … I have been here 30 times spent thousands of dollars and NEVER had someone of accuse me of stealing. There are 5 people in the wine section, and you come out of nowhere saying a have wine in my bag? ! The manager says “I’ll talk to him”. No ma’am you will bring him up here and he owes me an apology. Don’t worry, I’ll gladly tell my neighbors who frequent here as well, to find another store.

Great place to find food of course but.really amazing wine collection chose by real professionals.

Place to.pick up last minute cooking ingredients they're pretty stocked with almost everything I needed

One of my favorite stores for decades. Want some amazing Swiss, German, or Austria cookies or chocolates? Belgian ale? Or the Hungarian sweet paprika in a tin? Go to Rodman's and have fun. It's a small international grocery store upstairs and a mini department store down below! Also great is the staff, who are friendly and helpful.

This is definitely the place to go to for wine and beer. The staff are so friendly. I always feel so welcomed whenever I shop there. Glad my husband found this little gem!

Update: Received word that management reprimanded the employee and will ensure that they'll be better about this incident. Thankful management has the sense to educate their staff.

God forbid you look even remotely younger than you're age and try to buy alcohol here or else some overzealous worker who's on a power-trip will snatch your ID from the cashier and look it for ages before handing it back to you and giving you attitude with a helping of a few snark comments. If a Caucasian male worker who looks about six feet tall that wears a hat gives you attitude - don't take it personally. Clearly this is the most important job they'll ever have and take themselves too seriously.

I've been shopping here for 2 years now and have always come for groceries, alcohol and other needs. Rodman's staff is usually top notch so I'm not sure why they decided to hire someone with an unsavory ego issue.

Hope I never see that worker here again. Weird guy.

Rodmans is a wonderful store: it has a great pharmacy, a broad array of goods, and a cooperative and helpful staff.

The best. It’s the only American grocery store that I’ve been to so far that accommodates to South African food which made me so happy.

Wonderful as always! Endless goodies! Lovely staff. I have worked in an international setting for years and always find wonderful "favorites " for each of my friends and coworkers, who can’t believe I found these delights in a local DC setting! Bravo Rodmans!

This place is one of the few locations in DC that has a really nice selection of foreign food choices, particularly from around Europe and the UK. They also have a great selection of European chocolate (mozartkugeln!), wine, and beer. Also, the pharmacy and homewares store in the basement is huge (kind of a hidden gem)
