Grocery Store Safeway reviews
18A supermarket excels when flow is maximized and this one often seems to relish hindering flow. They rarely have more than one checker who scans your groceries which I would not begrudge if the self scanners were all going. Most often, however, they have 2 or more of the 6 down and a light flashing for service can do so for a while.
Great store, convenient to Dupont Circle area. Good deals, store clerks are helpful, courteous and I have an overall 5 star satisfaction rating.
Why is the Soviet Safeway so cold? It's 55 degrees outside today and the store is much colder. Is it to keep thier produce fresh? Nothing fresh I buy here (produce, milk, etc) ever lasts more than 48 hours so my theory is the keep it freezing to try to make the fresh stuff last longer. Can someone please explain why it it so cold in this store? !
Poor customer service! This store closes at 10pm but they told me It’s too late to purchase a gift card at 9: 16pm. This is very unprofessional. And I’m so disappointed.
The service is horrible and I can’t believe there are not restrooms for the customer! How a super market can have a restroom! Never come back
Seemed to be fully stocked. Didn't like detergents locked up since I have to get an employee to unlock it every time I need it.
Not as big as other Safeway I have gone to in the past. Products out of place or they just didn't have it at all. To the customer that's never going in that store before you might not see the carts. There is a wall of merchandise that stands between the entrance way and where the carts are. Not good. Update. Nothing has changed. Employee's are rude. Finally someone's got it right. Thank goodness. And thank you to the young lady who would help me on this day. When I needed it on multiple occasions (Self check out Cashier)
The place is ok shop here several times the problem that I have is that I was doing a order and a lady who was cashing out said that she was close I had to move to another lane and when I was in another lane she stated cashing people out I think that’s racism because I’m not colored
This grocery store would get 5 stars if it wasn’t for the deli counter foods. I bought potato salad and seafood salad. Safe right? I mean it’s potatoes and mayo in one, seafood and mayo in the other… WRONG and WRONG! It was terrible. They added onions and lots of salt to both salads. Yuuuuck. Wasted my money… bad, bad experience.
Smaller than typical neighborhood market with limited selection and self checkout only. Can get really busy at times.
Its great to have a Safeway nearby but the lines are always very long and it's pretty small so variety of food options could be much better. It could probably also use a facelift
This location sucks. No parking and any and everytime you go inside. There's never any inventory. Doing instacart offers at this location is a headache and a half. Management needs to revise their store goals and plans. Because as of now, they're sorely lacking for the customers who frequent this store location on Corcoran street NW.
It's a old location, that doesn't have a lot of space! They don't have fresh seafood or a bakery. You can get basics, along with fresh foods, delicious meats and salads, and some fried chicken
They call it the Soviet Safeway for a reason.empty shelves and long lines. Nonetheless, it's my neighborhood grocery store and I stick up for it. Staff is usually friendly. It's not their fault that it's a small store for such a large community and they don't have much space for on the shelves or the back storage.
However, yesterday was unusually bad. They only had the self-check out option available and only four of those machines were working. No live cashiers, and not enough self-checkouts. One staff member could not keep up with the problems that people were having on the machines. So, four machines, but then only one or two was functioning at any given moment. They other machines would have someone standing around waiting for the "customer support" of the one poor staff member who was bouncing around like a ping pong ball.
There never seems to be enough staff for the size of the store. Most of my time there yesterday I saw only the one self-checkout staff, I couldn't find anyone to answer a question for me. Two other staff showed up at the end. A staff member made an announcement, something about not enough staff members came to work that day. In my mind, having a lot of staff not showing up at work is a sign of bad working conditions.
I'd heard years ago that this store had the highest per square foot sales for the produce section in the country. Granted the section is small, but it seemed like a big deal. Safeway would do well to treat the staff and customers at this store better. I usually drive to another store, but still try to give them some business.and see if conditions have improved.
In this case, the conditions were awful.
This is the weirdest Safeway I ever been to. The layout is horrible. The aisles are too narrow.
"The Soviet Safeway" has not only outlasted the USSR by 23 years, it has managed to get worse in the meantime. Don't want "self check-out", then you can just get lost. That's the message from the sullen employees who hate their jobs as much as their customers. And charge you $3.99 for a dozen eggs when full service Trader Joes charges you $2.29. Time was when people fought to keep smaller inner city grocery stores like this open. Now, you appreciate they deserve to shutter permanently.
The store is small, nonetheless, Albertsons removed some food items to make room for beer and wine when Cairo Liquors is just across the street! No bakery. No pharmacy.
Small, but convenient. Used to be called Soviet Safeway for limited selection (due to limited size). But it is not bad. Different selection from Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. Between three of them you can find most grocery items you want at different price points and health preferences. Prices are not necessarily lower than in Whole Foods.
