Shortage of shopping carts at entrance.
Grocery items were well stocked but prices were much higher than competitors.

Terribly managed store that has gone down fast in the last year. On the weekends, you’re lucky to find a cart. The employees are mostly rude with the exception of a few employees at the deli who are extremely kind. For grocery pickup, they are never around. I’ve waited more than 30 minutes before totally defeating the purpose of doing grocery pickup and when they are around they are rude as all get out. After a bad interaction today with a young lady in grocery pickup, she was rude and aggressive, told me to hurry up getting the groceries out of the cart because she needed the cart back… they used to help me load in my vehicle. I will be driving to Alexandria from now on, it’s not worth the risk and stress.

Parking is free. Good offers on food and service was good. Rob the manager today helped me get a game day meal even though some of the items were not available.

~2 years ago this was a pretty fantastic grocery store. It’s gone pretty steeply downhill. I am sure some of that is due to the closure of the nearby Teeter and so an increased load/demand on this store, but they haven’t staffed up in response.

Consistently poor produce and low stock in items, and very long checkout lines. Carts and baskets are hot commodities - you’ll often see people waiting for others to exit the store to grab a cart.

Public safety also starting to become an issue in and around the store. Multiple thefts that I’ve witnessed, as well as increased loitering outside the store.

I think this is the best safeway in the city. It's a newer location so everything still feels fresh. I would say that they are in need a true deep clean soon.

The deli counter is supposed to be open till 8: 00 pm, but you'll be lucky if you can get anybody to help you after 7: 00 pm. There is always an excuse for them to shut down early; sometimes there is outright nobody there behind the counter. If you want to have any of the products on display sliced, they will only do it if they already have it behind the counter. On occasion I've asked for a particular Swiss cheese on display to be sliced and I've been told they don't have one open back there. In addition their attitude is like if they are doing you a favor.
Finding the liquor department open is totally a 'hit-or-miss' situation. The attendant there has other duties in the store, so the doors are often locked while he is attending to his other duties.
Good luck with getting a shopping cart.they are a precious commodity and at times there are none available.
At the self service station there are sometimes three or four employees visiting and having fun while you wait for someone to take care of you if you have a problem. I once asked one fo them to help me and she told me she was told they were on their break. I can understand people having a lunch break but they should not be in groups out on the floor visiting with each other like they are having a party. Customers do not they are on their break and it is very disorienting and rude to get an answer that "they can't help you".
Since Harris Teeter on Pennsylvania Ave near there closed, this is the only large supermarket in the area. I would gladly go somewhere else if there was one.
The parking garage is filthy and it doesn't seem to be maintained with enough regularity. Even though Trader Joe's does not have the product selection of a large supermarket, I've often gone to to the Trader Joe's at Easter Market instead just to get better service and to be in a cleaner parking garage.

This Safeway pharmacy should be avoided. They are understaffed and not sufficiently stocked. Due to the reasons above you will likely have to make multiple visits and good luck getting anyone on the phone. Staff is not engaged or excited to be there so they will do the absolute minimum to be helpful. Try capsule or Grubbs pharmacy nearby instead.

Worst customer service ever. I have shopped Safeway since it was on 7th Street across from Eastern Market (i.e, for many decades). Except for a small handful of employees, its employee are consistently rude. My recent experience takes the cake. Purchased a marked down item and was charged the full amount. The register clerks can't adjust the price once the sale is complete so I went straight to the Customer Service desk. Two people behind the counter completely ignored us. After a minute or two they both left - one went to a register so I asked her if anyone was working the customer service desk and explained I'd been improperly charged. Her response - "no one can help you, you have to come back tomorrow. " When I responded "you've got to be kidding - that makes no sense" (it was 6: 15pm on a Friday). I didn't yell, I didn't cuss.she informed me I had no right to talk to her that way. After asking if a manager was duty, she further told me "I won't help you because I don't like how you spoke to me. " I went to another clerk who pointed out the manager who - apparently - was already getting an earful from the clerk pointing out the "rude" customer. The manager took the item and my receipt and didn't say a word to me.at which point I decided I didn't want any of the items I'd purchased and don't plan to ever shop that store again even tho I only live 3 blocks away. Boy do I miss the Potomac Avenue Harris Teeter. Safeway - please train and work with (and if needed pay) your employees better. Fortunately I have a car and can go to other groceries not too far away, but many of my neighbors don't have that option.

This is hands down the worst Safeway in the area and maybe in the country. The pharmacy is a disgrace. It takes each person 15 minutes to get a prescription. It’s constantly out of stuff. It needs to be shutdown immediately

If Safeway does not discontinue hiring discourteous employees, the store will end up like the Safeway at Alabama Ave.and Naylor Rd. SE.

I don’t understand why the pharmacy would close before the time posted on the website. People structure their day around when they can pickup their prescriptions. If you’re going to close early, change the hours on your website.

The white box shown here is displayed on the shelves with bread. This white box is used to trap mice. Just thinking you could have dead mice in these boxes next to the bread is a health violation.

Btw theres a lot of these boxes displayed behind the items on the shelves.

I really love this Safeway. It's clean and it's close to home.the prices are a bit high. But it's closer than Walmart. So spending a little extra when you just need essentials is worth it! Plus their meat and produce department are really nice 5 stars for me.

Bad customer service (ever heard of a smile?), trash abounds outside, inside booze store is overpriced and not enough carts. Why would anyone go here?

Costumer service is Horrible! Sharon the cashier attendant is always rude and disrespectful she acts if though it’s a problem asking for her assistance and it’s her job, that just don’t make any sense! She’s constantly never behind the counter, but always in another employee face talking instead of doing her job! The Male light skinned manager with the Loc’s is never any help, he takes his job as a complete joke. Everyday and night I see him fraternizing with his coworkers, running through the store chasing around the starbucks employees, he’s constantly walking around the store on his phone but no where to be found when a customer needs help! Their Western Union system is always down. For some reason I don’t know why. Instead of someone actually helping the customers every employee is walking around like they don’t have any work to do! The store shelves are never fully stocked with up to date food! The store as a whole is a complete failure, you guys need to hire people that actually want to work not just holding up space.
