Incredible! Stories from all of history told through mail and stamps! Tiny gift shop, but I bought 500 stamps for 10$ and had a ton of fun sorting them by country.

Awesome museum! Has a lot of info not just strictly pertaining to mail, and got to write a postcard to family while there, definitely a great experience!

Bigger than you think! Lots of stamps to check out if you're a stamp nerd. I like the old equipment and history of mail delivery. Worth checking out!

Exciting and interesting collection of postal artifacts (including trucks, a plane suspended from a ceiling, and a full size stagecoach!) along with historic stamps and postal history exhibits. The building is stunning but family friendly and is directly across the street from Union Station in Washington DC.

Admission is free, but you must pass through a security screening to enter the building. An excellent and reasonably priced gift shop is on the lower level. The building is completely accessible. Stop at the main information desk to pick up a map of the museum and receive information about special, themed exhibits.

Many hands-on displays will appeal to younger guests.
If you have a travel layover at Union Station, this museum is a great place to spend a few hours. If you're touring other Smithsonian museums, don't miss this one. It's well worth a stop. Allow at least two hours.

This museum is wonderful. Tells the story of stamps. And like all Washington museums, you don't pay anything to enter.

So, upstairs is sort of the history of stamps. We enjoyed that and the beautiful architecture. Especially fun was picking out 6 stamps to take home.
Downstairs was more the history of the postal service. 2/3 of it reminded me of the new spy museum, info panels on the wall, light on "things" to look at, sort of ADHD. The other 1/3 was enjoyable.
Gift shop was very nice, bought some stamp covers and some field notes with Ruth Bader Ginsburg stamps on them.

The Postal Museum is next to Union Station. You can see the history of the United States Postal Service from here.

If you are in Washington DC, you should check out the VERY interesting and surprisingly cool National Postal Museum! I recommend the FREE guided tour to start, because you’ll NEVER be able to get it all yourself. They even give out free collecting stamps to start peoples collections! This museum is flying under the radar - it’s very organized, not too big, and contains so many interesting stories…I will have to go back! Plus cute gift shop!

In this place you find stamps from all over the world, commemorative issues; You can go through it in a short time and you have the option to select 6 stamps and take them with you.

We didn't plan on visiting this museum but happened to see it on our way. It was a pleasant surprise! The interactives and activities were fun. Lots of interesting information and nice displays throughout the museum. We really enjoyed our visit.

It was right outside Union Station and it was free, so I went even though I hadn't planned on going. I liked the exhibit on the lower floor where you can learn about the beginnings and history of postal services. I thought it was a wonderful development that postal services, which started out as only having to be sent once a month between Boston and New York, now have stamps, barcodes, mechanized sorting, and can be tracked in real time.

This is the an often overlooked Smithsonian in my opinion. There is so much to see and learn in a this museum from the postal system to stamps. How they both came to be and why and so much more. I enjoyed my 2 hours here while waiting for a train home as the museum is located steps away from Union Station.
