The Phillips Collection reviews
15Outstanding permanent collection, and especially well curated special exhibitions. They also host excellent music concerts in wonderful wood paneled concert room of the mansion. Check it out.
A must visit landmark in DC. Very eclectic content somehow alligned in a cohesive frame of a new American approach to an old religion.
Great collection, well curated and beautifully presented. The facility is fun to explore. It was really enjoyable to spend 5 hours there. The facility was very accessible via subway, only a few hundred yards from the DuPont circle station. I plan to visit many more times.
An unforgettable visit as the collection presented is a marvel. “The luncheon at the boating party” (bizarrely translated “The Luncheon on the boating party”) is worth the detour in itself. And so many other works to discover and appreciate.
The Philips Collection is a beautiful art museum.
Every month there is a party from 5: 00 to 8: 30 paid ticket to enter or become a member.
It's wonderful!
I'm visiting from TX and I was looking for a collection of black art. I wasn't disappointed. The collection was a combination of old and new art. Love it.
I love this museum! Caught the special exhibition, African Modernism in America, 1947-1967. I didn't give myself enough time to take it all in, so I hope to return before the exhibition closes on Jan 7,2024!
This museum is underappreciated by many washingtonians because I like the Smithsonian museums. It does charge an admission. You can be sure that it's well worth the price, as both its permanent collection and visiting shows are all first rate.
Best art museum in DC, hands down. Excellent cafe and gift shop too. All of their collection not on current display, thrown up in a warehouse somewhere, would probably be the second best art museum in DC.
A wonderful venue for viewing some really fantastic art pieces! The ambience was lovely too.
Superb collection.
Unique and very eclectic modern works
Unfortunately, an outdated set design and lighting that is no longer up to standard.
This museum which absolutely deserves a visit to WDC needs a certain rejuvenation
I only just discovered the Phillips Collection. It's a treasure. And I attended the After 5 party last month and it was a ton of fun. Great music and a party atmosphere with all that beautiful art to keep the vibe alive.
Renoir’s “Luncheon of the Boating Party” is probably the museum’s gem. Other wonderful artists’ works are there too! Enjoy those from Bonnard, Klee, Jacob Lawerence & more. The temporary exhibits are normally great.
Went to check out the African Modernism in America exhibit and it did not disappoint! A very insightful and broad collection of work with a lot of historical references. Also looked at the Rothko pieces on my way out. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re in the area and looking for something to do after 4 pm when you can visit for free and donate what you want.
I grabbed some hot apple pie at the café before exploring the art. The employees were kind. Everything was expensive if not overpriced, but this was not your average pie. It came with a scoop of ice cream that made the whole thing melt in your mouth. I attended a Phillips After 5 event with a focus on Afrobeats. They had classic artists like Matisse, Claude Monet, Georgia O’Keefe, Pablo Picasso, and Vincent Van Gogh along with powerful pieces by African artists. I was blown away by the selection and would highly recommend this place!
