The Watergate Hotel reviews
17One of the best hotels I've had the privilege of staying at. I reserved the Diplomat suite but received a complementary upgrade to the Ambassador's suite. The room was breathtaking. The master bathroom had the best shower on the planet. While I appreciate the fully stocked fridge, the TV is still a bit in the stone age with the lack of streaming services, and an underwhelming on-demand selection. Lastly, it was difficult to reach front desk and valet from the room so be prepared to manually walk down and request your vehicle. Overall, very satisfied with my stay.
The watergate might be showing it’s age a bit, but us still a solid hotel with great staff and beautiful views. Modern feel in the lobby with traditional rooms. Bathrooms are amazing. Easy to walk, a little more difficult to catch an Uber.
My favorite hotel. This hotel is my happy place. Top notch service at every turn. Great food. Beautiful rooms. The history behind it. THE VIEWS. I can’t get enough. Everyone (and I really mean everyone) who works here is so friendly and willing to help. The spa services are amazing. I highly recommend the warmed spice rub. Shoutout to Lisa! I really can only say good things about this place. I will forever choose The Watergate Hotel over any other place to stay in DC.
I lived in Washington for 25 years and always wanted to stay at the Watergate. I reserved a room on Orbitz for about $500 that was supposed to have a balcony and river view. They gave me a room with a construction view and no balcony. Orbitz called and fixed the problem - the hotel moved me to a musty 5th floor room with a very sad balcony and an even worse view of construction. The dude at the desk had zero sympathy and wanted me to pay more - fair enough since it was an Orbitz mistake that they fixed.
The new room was also very musty and had a big wet spot on the carpet. I am fairly sure someone before me spilled something the night before.or worse barfed. They shouldn't have rented the room that night.
The lobby is nice, but past that the hotel is a dump. The furniture has not been updated since Nixon was president and not in a charming way.
If you are interested in the Watergate, visit the bar on the roof for a drink, skip the stay.
Positives first: The location was great and the views from our balcony were beautiful. However, the room was very dated and didn't feel super clean. No one came to clean or refresh it during our 3 night stay. There was a bad storm and water leaked in by the window where the air conditioning unit was and flooded the room. When I called the front desk to report the flood, they offered to send up towels but didn't even look at the flood or offer to move us or anything. This didn't feel hygienic to me. Also, our room was located right next to the elevator and the walls are thin, so it was quite loud. It felt very overpriced given these factors. I would choose a different hotel next time I visit DC.
The Watergate is my DC go to hotel. Beautifully appointed but outstandong staff. Everone has been so helpful. Great stay.
If you are looking for the perfect DC experience with comfort, history and luxury, plan a stay at the Watergate Hotel.
Although the decor may seem dated to some, I found the nostalgic look to be the perfect relation to the era that most of us relate to the name and a nod to the Italian designer. The "Scandal Room" formerly room 214 (now 205) is available to rent for a premium cost or is available to tour by the bellman when it is unoccupied.
The on-site bars and restaurants are over priced but you get a credit when you book through Fine Hotels Membership or AMEX Platinum.
I recommend walking to Georgetown or planning a run or bike ride (bikes available for free to loan) on the Rock Creek trail. This is also the perfect hotel to stay at if planning a trip to the Kennedy Center.
Great hotel with perfect location.
I stayed in the room with balcony facing to the water, what brings extra beauty to this room. Good service. Amex gives you couple extra benefits: check in early and check out later. Breakfast included and extra $ 100 to use it for any needs at the hotel. Tasty breakfast with a lot of options.
I choose this hotel not the first time and anything disappointed me again.
Thank you to all people who works at the hotel, please do what you with pride - Im coming back soon
Very nice hotel. Room service burger was great. Bed was amazing. Housekeeping did great job as well. Would stay again.
High additional costs that are not known, bad drinks in the bar, overpriced, in plastic cups
The positives: The hotel has impressive interior design and luxurious, chic decor. The lobby and rooms are modern and stylish.
The location is not very central, but there are a few restaurants on the Potomac River within walking distance.
However, we were very dissatisfied with the previously unknown and non-transparent billing modalities and the service in the rooftop bar.
We were looking forward to the rooftop bar, which looks very nice in the hotel photos, but were bitterly disappointed. First we were seated at a table on the side. After a few minutes of waiting and asking, we learned from the service staff that there was no service at these tables, only self-service. We then got the worst and most expensive Gintonic that we have ever drunk and which was handed over to us in plastic cups (!).
What you only find out when you settle the bill at the end of your hotel stay are the non-transparent additional costs. The $100 credit advertised was not applied in full towards hotel services (such as drinks or breakfast), instead additional taxes and service were deducted. Various additional costs were also added to the hotel costs.
We had booked the hotel room including breakfast, but then found out on the spot that we could use an amount of 35 dollars each for breakfast. There is also an à la carte breakfast menu that quickly exceeds $35.
We were very annoyed at checkout about high additional costs that were not communicated beforehand and would therefore not recommend this hotel. We feel deceived.
This review only reflects Watergate’s rooftop bar and their restaurant department.
While having visited their rooftop bar back in June and didn’t have a good experience. On July 20th, they falsely charged me a large bill, while I did not even visit their business that day. I do not know how are they able to have my payment info nor how they are able to charge a bill - the business has a fundamental problem and is very concerning and upsetting.
However, I really appreciate the two gentlemen at the front desk who helped me greatly over the phone when I got falsely charged. They were very helpful, apologetic, and forwarded the problem to the rooftop management.
Great trip. Tyler at the front desk was a huge help and assisted on a much appreciated upgrade. Thank you for making the stay so memorable!
We stayed at the Watergate on July 3,2023. I usually don’t write reviews but the service we received from Tyler was beyond exceptional. He truly elevated our experience. We will definitely be back thanks to him!
They renovated the entire hotel - it’s a real experience to stay here — very different from other higher end hotels in its own way -
Wow what an awesome hotel. The front desk staff is amazing! Rooms, pool etc is definitely 5 stars.if you are visiting DC feel safe in the area to walk etc. I parked my car here. The Valet guys so professional
High tea at the Watergate was fantastic. Lovely view of the river while eating wonderful pastries.
I am a clean cut individual and came in from the biking trail needing to use the restroom. The Kennedy building was closed. Lady at the counter rudely refused to let me used the restroom. I wouldn’t never stay at a hotel that doesn’t treat people with basic human courtesy.
