I've been eating ice cream here since 2018, everytime I came in I order my ice cream in the see-through cup with no problem. Today, August 24,2022 I order the usual ice cream size in the usual see-through cup. The server (about 5'7", chubby, short hair) gives me problem, he told me I have to order ice cream with topping to get the see-through cup. In the meantime, many customers before me got their ice cream in the see-through cup without toppings. This is very disappointing and annoying because I'm being treated differently than the other customers. Not sure if it's because I'm South East Asian and other customers are White. There is no rule in the store saying I have to order toppings to get my ice cream in the see-through cup. Very disappointed with this man, and very sad for such ice cream brand. I've been introducing my friends from all over the world about the store. I will have to think twice about it now, especially my Asian friends.

Tommy Sweet is the BEST ice cream in Georgetown. No question. If you go anywhere else you go anywhere else you are making a mistake. The flavor menu is huge! They have all the classics but then a whole bunch of original flavors to try each time you go as well. The staff keep the line moving so don't be deterred if you see the line wrapping around the front. You won't be waiting long and it's always worth it! Cash is best, but they do take card.

It was a 90 degree weather day which obviously calls for an ice cream stop after walking around Georgetown and shopping. Thomas Sweet is a classic that I've heard so many good things about, and finally got to try it out.

Since it was so hot, of course there was a line outside their building. There's both outdoor and indoor seating available, but luckily we were able to grab an inside table to escape the heat. Cash is preferred but credit and debit cards are taken for a $7 minimum purchase.

There are so many flavors to choose from, and even frozen yogurt and vegan options as well. After choosing your flavor, you can decide between plain ice cream, sundaes, or milkshakes. There are also various cone options and toppings that can be added to truly have the most customizable experience. If you aren't interested in their ice cream they sell fresh homemade fudge as well.

I went with chocolate chip cookie dough and mint chocolate chip in a cup. Even inside the store, the ice cream was melting quickly so I didn't want to deal with the mess of having a cone. Both flavors I got were delicious, but the cookie dough really stood out to me. The dough pieces were amazing and the vanilla ice cream was great.

This is a great ice cream spot and will definitely be a new stop for our ice cream cravings next time we're in Georgetown!

The place is dirty as hell! Unorganized and messy with rude staff!
I took my friend who was visiting from Germany and i was really embarrassed how bad the place looked and how rude the staff were to her. I will never go back

Tasty ice cream. A bit overwhelming for first timers but you really can't go wrong with any flavor they have. Also keep in mind you can't try any flavor before purchasing. Now, the customer experience and service could use some refinement. Hard to know what to do or even where to stand the first time you walk in. Also, the guys working the counter are not the most enthusiastic or kind either. I understand this work is hard and that they do have crowds all day long, especially on weekends and evenings, but compared to other ice cream shops in the city, they could treat their customers a bit better considering it is also not cheap to shop there.

Waited in line for 30 minutes to watch our server sneeze into his hand before scooping our Ice cream…. When we asked him to wash his hands and remake it he rolled his eyes and said he was wearing a mask so it was fine…. Wow that’s some bad service honestly super gross. Not at all worth the experience hope no one after us got sneeze cream

Variety of flavors is nice but the ice cream was just okay & the customer service was poor. I was given the dairy versions of sorbet I ordered, and when I pointed out the error the server argued with me on whether I actually said the word “sorbet”. It was busy so I understand some level of tiredness but the argument was juvenile & unprofessional. I just paid & left without getting a fix.

There were also traces of nuts in the fruit flavored ice cream which could have been disastrous if I had a nut allergy.

I’ll also say the $7 card minimum is not advertised, not very standard & can be very inconvenient for those who tend to go cashless.

SERVER IS RUDE AND DISCRIMINATE. I've been eating ice cream here since 2018, I've never felt discriminated until now. I went to the store on August 24,2022 at 9PM. I always ordered the see-through cup with no problem, this time the server gave me problem, he said I have to order toppings to get the see-through cup. In the meantime, other customers before me got the see-through cup without any toppings, and he gave me problem. I'm South East Asian descent, and it seems to be a problem with this guy. He didn't have attitude with other White customers. I've ran into issue with this guy before, he's about 5'7 chubby, short hair. And I read other reviews, and it looks like customers have the same issue with him.

He reluctantly gave me the see-through cups, and warned me that next time he'll charge me extra. I've felt so offended and disappointed in customer service here. It serves great ice cream with the Presidents visited here before, but with poor and discriminated customer service. I want a clear price list for what customers can and cannot order.

I've been bringing family and friends from different part of the world to this Thomas Sweet location, but I will reconsider it, and I will spread the words about such discriminated customer service until the problem is solved.

We as a group of 4 just went to this place to get ice cream. First of all, the guy (big chubby guy) was super rude to my freind. She asked for a small cup and a scoop of her choice, he came back with different ice cream in a big cup, so my freind told him that was not my order, I asked for a small cup and also different ice cream, he told my freind “ you are lying! ” He, told the customer “ you are lying! ” What was going on with this customer service! Then we all got so disappointed of his attitude with our freind and my husband forgot to even check his ice cream, so while we’re were eating, he realized that they did not even give him the ice creams he wanted too, he asked for 3 scoops, one double chocolate chip, one coffee and one sweet chocolate, and he completely have him vanilla, something white with beans like thing, so this time my husband went back and told them that you did not give me my order, and he said I don’t remember, it was long time ago! So my husband stayed and said change it and give me what I asked you, so he finally had to change his order, but I don’t know why this place is too famous for and the ice cream is ok, not too Special too, so the worst customer service, I am so sorry that Obama and Biden spent their time and their name for such a horrible place! They should do something as this business is using their name for staying in business!

Ice cream itself is really good but the customer service and overall design of how to handle customers is laughably bad. Everyone was getting barked at and confused about where to go while trying to get some simple ice cream.

Meanwhile there’s over half the store square footage basically not in use. Really badly managed.

Frozen yogurt was delicious! Cake batter and Mint Chocolate were both better than other places! I loved they had the wet Nuts topping option. Tons of options and ice cream combinations to choose from.

I took my parents here during their visit to DC. Best ice cream in town-by a longshot. And the service is great on top of it. Definitely worth a trip out to Georgetown for a cone and a leisurely walk by the river.

I was publicly discriminated on the basis of disability in the establishment. I entered on 7/7/22 with my fully trained service dog, and upon entering I was told that even service dogs weren’t allowed. The workers continually shook their heads and repeated that we were not allowed in the building. I immediately decided that I was not going to spend money in a business that did not respect the fact that I have a medical disability, and that without my service dog, I would not be able to detect a medical emergency. *** If you want to support your disabled family and friends, do not give your money to this business. *** I have additionally reported this to the Department of Justice. This act of disability discrimination will not go unnoticed.

Doesn't look like much from the inside or outside but the ice cream is great. They could stand to rewrite the menu though, they've crossed a lot of the items off and just wrote something new next to it, like a price increase.

This spot is widely known throughout D. C, but man was I disappointed… The ice cream selection was great, but the positives end there. I tried a few flavors and for the price, they were all okay at best. The service was AWFUL. Workers were rude and dismissive. I asked for 1 extra cup just to keep from making a mess, but they were only willing to give one for an extra charge, and wouldn’t take card for it. Ridiculous experience for how respected this place is

Please know to check your receipt to make sure they don’t scam you they have scammed me for 20 years got 3 cones and it was supposed to equal 15 they equaled it as 27 so frustrating would never had known if i didn’t check

Bad bad experience. Saw the line outside and thought that ice cream would be great. I would say it is decent at best. The worst part is the staff. So rude without any reason. I would recommend trying ice-cream jubilee or jeni’s ice cream which are both nearby. If they continue like this they will lose all their customers.

Awesome little neighborhood ice cream shop with fantastic selection of flavors. I particularly love their black raspberry ice cream, and their limeade is excellent on a hot summer day. Service is prompt and friendly, and while a little pricey, it's totally worth it. Also, open relatively late for an ice cream shop, which is nice on a summer night. I have not tried the confections but I've heard they are also good.

What a magical place. Thomas Sweet never disappoints.

It's practically the only place I can find rum raisin any more.

And a block of fudge is always a great way to bring a little bit of Thomas Sweet back home with you.

For the second time I have been treated horrible at this Ice cream shop. Everyone else was treated with respect but I was given melted ice cream that was sitting open on the counter while other people reach over talk over the open container of ice cream. Never again will I visit this establishment again!
