50's Prime Time Café reviews
16 We ate here last night and it was literally the highlight of our trip because of Aunt Whitney! If you don’t already know, this is a themed restaurant set in the 50s where the staff plays the role of 50’s era characters. The food is 50’s era comfort food and was very good. Our waitress Aunt Whitney started by explaining the “rules”- no cell phones at the table, please and thank you, eat your veggies and ask to be excused to go the bathroom. Boy, did we have fun! My 5 year old ate everything on her plate and my 8 year old was on his best behaviour. It also forced us not to be on our phones during dinner. Aunt Whitney even brought out a crown for my husband that read “#1 troublemaker” which my kids loooved.
We had the best time and highly recommend this experience!
Ask for Aunt Whitney!
Pro tip- my 5 and 8 year olds shared a kids meal and it was plenty of food.
A very well done restaurant with a unique 50's style theme and well trained staff, or as they call themselves.cousins. Mama is always cooking in the kitchen and you better be on your best behavior or the cousins will let you know.
We enjoyed the sampler entree plate and the shrimp and grits. Both dishes needed a little bit more salt, but we cleaned our plates and got the sticker to prove it!
The service was the tops here. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was classic 50's. Wait-staff was attentive to our needs.
I would give service 6 stars. My ASD son was feeling rough. Our server got him damp towels for his neck and saltines for his tummy. Ice to hold taking his mind off the sensory overload. Bourdain cheese app is amazing. Salmon entree 2as good sauce and sides are primo. My salmon was a little undercooked in the middle, but not a big deal at all.
What a great time. Arrive for your meal a bit early and grab a drink at the Tune-In Lounge, the connected bar next to the restaurant. The fun midcentury modern decor creates a fun atmosphere.
After you've enjoyed digging into "dad's liquor cabinet, " and you're seated, your aunt or uncle (server) will either make or break your experience. Uncle Caleb is an absolute riot. He was so much fun and you're in for a treat should you end up at one of his tables.
We got a couple appetizers. Tomato bisque and onion rings. Both were great. Onion rings were a tad greasy, but still very good. The horseradish sauce is delicious, even if you're not much for horseradish like myself.
I had always been told that the food here wasn't all that good, but we actually quite enjoyed it. The crust on pot pie was crispy and flaky and full of savory herbs. The chicken is maybe a tad overcooked and oversalted but overall still excellent. Pot roast and meatloaf were also pretty good.
Definitely an experience you'll have to have. Especially if you're a fan of midcentury decor or early 60s black and white television, which is playing on TVs throughout the restaurant which are visible from most tables. The whole family was proud to be inducted into the clean plate club, and we wore our stickers proudly for the rest of the day!
Even as locals to Orlando… this restaurant at The Studios is Always a fun, family dinner. 50’s Prime Time Pot Roast and chicken pot pie is one of our favorites. The milkshakes are delish. I do miss the good cheeseburger that previously was on the menu. Long lost sister Brynn (server) is the best’ The Funk Family loves a visit and moment to step back in time.
This used to be such a fun place to dine and though the food was delicious, being yelled at by the wait staff is not a relaxing environment. Not for me, hard pass.
This was our first time visiting Hollywood Studios, and the 50’s Prime Time Cafe came highly recommended. I am so glad we got to experience this place. It was so much fun from the time we walked in. We had cousin Eric waiting on us and he made the experience so much better. Uncle Allen was also in the area serving surrounding tables and the two of them together had me and my family laughing nonstop. The food is good and “just like moms home cooking”. The only down fall is that you have to have a park reservation to eat there otherwise we would have returned on another day…. It was that good.
Definitely worth the experience. You will be chastised for bad etiquette.which was humorous.especially for the kids. The atmosphere, staff & food were pretty perfect.as expected. You will be pleased.
They have really good fried chicken and we had a really nice waiter and gave us the whole experience that I dreamed of
Located inside of Disney's Hollywood Studios. Admission required.
Personally, this is my least favorite restaurant in all of Disney World. That is also an unpopular opinion, especially amongst my friend group who all love the Chicken dinner here. Don't get me wrong, I love the 50's themed decor, retro televisions and being told to keep my elbows off the table, but the food and service have lacked here every single time I have visited. It does seem to be a hit for those who eat meat and those who do not have allergy requests so keep that in mind as you make dining decisions.
I have now been to this restaurant three times (nothing within the last year) with visiting friends and family and every time I'm just there to spend time with my party and unable to order any food due to the lack of options. After my second visit, I was told to ask for a Chef in the future. Upon my third visit, I did ask for the Chef and I was told that the Chef would not be able to offer me anything different because everything they had would be made with something I couldn't eat. I expected this because of my previous experiences and already went into dinner assuming I wouldn't be ordering anything.
However, the waiter (or "cousins" as they call them here) followed it up with "So are you not going to eat anything? " and I looked at them, dumbfounded, because they just told me there was no option for my allergy requests so how was I going to eat anything? I did order alcoholic beverages though because at least thats filling, right? The rest of the party did enjoy their meals and dessert.
I've also always wondered why they don't have a plant-based meat loaf here because that seems like it would do well and fit in with the theme.
This is not a place I'd recommend if allergies are a concern or if you're Vegetarian/Vegan. There are other great food options throughout the park though!
The food was delicious and the service was great. Some other reviews complain about the wait staff, but the sass and attitude is part of the show. They don't make it obvious when booking the meals so go in knowing this ahead of the time and you'll have a blast. We had Whitney as a server and she was the absolute best.
Terrible service, parents got sick so instead of 5 people there were 3 of us kids are hungry and they told us we would have to wait.why? Wow disney you have gone downhill fast
Alan was the best “grumpy” uncle we could’ve asked for. While he was a bit on the sarcastic side to my wife and I, he was amazing to our son. I must point out the grumpiness and sarcasm is part of the theme so this was all in good fun. We had an amazing time.
Did I mention the food is some of the best in Disney? It is SOME OF THE BEST IN DISNEY.
Thanks Alan and all of the other wonderful staff.
Yes the fried chicken was half an entire chicken. And the PBJ milkshake was delicious. But the five star review is for (cousin?) Josh, our waiter, who was the highlight of the dining experience! He had us and the whole room in stitches the whole meal. He put the magic in Disney for all of us that day.
Overall a great choice if your at Hollywood studios! Great service and good menu. Not very bad priced for a Disney experience as well. All 3 of my kids ate and got full and had a good time as well. The throwback era the place puts you into is also cool. For all 5 of us eating and having a bill of $80 was well worth it. The sampler plate was good and gave plenty of food to eat. The roast, chicken, meatloaf, potatoes and Mac cheese were all very good. I even got some stickers handed out for being in the clean plate club. Lol!
