A.E. Backus Museum & Gallery reviews
15Small, intimate art museum of "Bean" Backus and the Highway Men. Beautiful landscape paintings of Florida.
Great place with a lot of awesome art and information about A. E. Backus and the Highwaymen
Was a great experience even tho we were there years and years ago when it was smaller and not improved. The one person working there was very welcoming, knowledgeable and the place was extremely neat and clean as well as the rest rooms. We purchased a cup with a painting on it. We very much enjoyed all that we saw and also noted that they will be putting in additional exhibits. Outside the little park near the boats was lovely as well. An excellent experience.
An absolutely mast place to visit when you are in Fort pierce. A beatiful art museum packed with beautiful local art works.
AE Backus Museum not only shows Backus art, but also shows local art. They currently are showing Highwaymen art. An inexpensive museum to visit with only a few visitors most of the time. We visit periodically because the displays are changed.
Very professional gallery. Wonderful staff who are very knowledgeable. A must see if you are in the area.
We went with a group from our Art Club. Everyone enjoyed it. BEAUTIFUL painting and lots of local history.
Backus very famous painter artist in fort pierce from 1920. Place has his famous paintings. And remember-all museums cost $3.oo retiree and $5.00 regular.
A MUST SEE! This museum has a small entry fee but is free for active Military. PAY THE FEE if you have to, it's worth it. Very well laid out, great collection of early Florida Highwayman and a wonderful Chronological collection of Backus works without being over whelming. The photo contest you get to vote for was a fun experience. Wonderful museum to see what Florida's great artists can produce. Glad we made the visit.
An educational trip into one of Florida's history of art development. I love this place. This world could learn a lot from the way Mr. Backus lived, loved, helped and inspired those around him. I'm glad I got a chance to hear people that new him speak of him through video. RIP to Mr Backus, a son of Stuart Florida's history in art, one of the most humble/ thoughtful people this world has lost.
Best little art museum on the Treasure Coast and in Florida for that matter! Marshall is an excellent director and promoter! Staff is friendly and helpful. The art is Backus but true old Florida. Close to good food and galleries. It's one of my happy places!
Hey I have been by this place many times.
But today was my first time in.
Very well done.

Cost is $3. With AARP card.
Great deal.

Incredible collection of Highwaymen Art, just spectacular.
Go see this, $3 donation, best ever you'll spend.
Beautiful museum filled with stunning paintings of Old Florida landscapes. (Ask one of the volunteers about some of the history of A. E. Backus if you get a chance!) You can buy a print or souvenir from the shop inside!
Lovely museum with an astonishing display of Highwaymen paintings and a very informative video about Backus and how he taught and encouraged the group of men and women who became The Highwaymen painters. There is a gallery of Highwaymen paintings that are for sale and a wonderful gift shop with some unique items.
