This is an amazing place if you want to get away from people. You can only reach it by boat or canoe. There are several trails and at the east and west ends, there are primitive campgrounds. If you want to be away from people for days, this is the place to go to.
Another hidden gem along the forgotten coast. The center's exhibits and trails are free to visit and there is a ton to learning to be had here. An older Floridian stopped us at the end of the boardwalk, where the river meets the sea, to tell us that this is real Florida- no high-rises, just natural beauty along the coastline. Spotted some eagles and turtles. Bathrooms and gift shop on site. Free parking too.
Very informative, about the area. And lots of things you think you know, but don't.
Wonderful Friendly staff, clean with good information on specimens. Don't skip the 12 min movie.
