Beautiful trail with lots of easy walking path and wide enough for multiple people to pass. It's kept very natural with marshland on either side so it doesn't feel very planned or artificial. Some of the wooden raised portions over the water slant toward the water a bit so they may be finicky when wet. The trail overall can get pretty muddy when wet too. Beautiful trail to spend some time on, especially when I went on my lunch break, their was no one else there at all.

Great ride trail. Nothing technical but still fun to do with advanced riders or just family fun.

Great place to bike, run and walk, just minutes from Okeechobee Blvd. Good place to view local wildlife and vegetation.

What I love about living in the SW area of Greater West Palm Beach is the abundance of parks and wilderness areas that you can enjoy.

The Apoxee Trail is one of the “wilderness urban areas”, which I find amazing: when visiting these areas (and big parks) you would think you are far away from civilization, when in fact you don’t have to drive for hours to enjoy some open, green and wild places!

I knew of this trail for many years because I used to drive by the entrance in my daily commutes to work, but only recently we finally visited it.

This trail is “wild” from the very start: there is only a small street bringing you to the entrance and back to Jog Rd, and no parking lot – you will have to park on the side of the street, and depending on the time and the day, you may find it challenging to find a free spot. The park however is so big that it will rarely be crowded!

At the entrance of the Apoxee Trail there is also a ¼ mile paved trail, which we checked out before continuing our walk into the park. This trail is very easy and all in the wood’s shade.

The trail runs on wetlands through boardwalks and natural surfaces in the woods: such surfaces are of course not even, so watch out for roots and stones when walking.
It is an extremely peaceful walk where you’ll make several stops for wildlife observation (bring your binoculars!), as well for letting through people on bikes.

At the end of the Apoxee Trail you can either go back the same way, or continue your walk/ride on the outer loop (called Owahee Trail) before reconnecting with the second part of the Apoxee Trail. If you do this whole trail you will walk over 4 miles.

Just so you know, the loop is all under the sun and has a stream on one side. We saw a huge alligator on the opposite side, which means… they could have been on our side too! We encountered a couple of families with kids running and playing very close to the stream, and I don’t think that’s a great idea… As for every other wilderness area, you will also need to pay extra attention to your surroundings during the alligator’s mating season (we usually just avoid going to those areas in that period).

The Trail is open every day from sunrise to sunset, but may be closed for flooding after heavy or constant rainfalls.
There are portable toilets at the entrance but no access to water, so make sure you go in properly prepared.

We will certainly go back to this trail other times!

Great trail, I think it’s more suited for biking because of how long it is but it can be a nice long walk if you have a couple hours.

We couldn't take advantage of some of the trail experience due to flooding. But bring along water as the unflooded areas tend to be in the unshaded sunlight.

Nice park/trail I stumbled on while staying at a hotel less than two miles away. It wasn't busy so parking was easy but I imagine that could be difficult on a weekend. No dogs allowed. Trails were very easy and pretty clean except for a little mud. Lots of birds, reptiles, butterflies, interesting plants for a guy from Virginia. No bugs too. Only negative i can think of is the traffic noise and some power lines you have to walk under. Otherwise a great reprieve from a full a day visiting wastewater treatment plants.

I love this trail. It’s a must visit for the nature lover of the area. I spotted a black snake, tons of birds and lizards, and an alligator. There are a lot of open sunny areas so be sure to bring a hat!

Unique place for endurance training, perfect for cycle-cross, XC, gravel. Perfect for bird signing, and Floridian locals animals.

Beautiful trail. Extremely well marked. Hours of potential hiking or biking available but there are also shorter paths. Great place to see wildlife as well! There are portions that can flood easily and some sections with minimal shade so it's important to plan around the weather.

Nice trails with some shaded areas, but aside from gambusia in the water, didn't see a lot of wildlife. Maybe it was the time of the day? Concerned with the fact that we saw a homeless person walking into the park to make his nightly camp as we were leaving. Perhaps some sort of patrol might be needed to avoid possible issues.

Apoxee Trail is our go-to starting point for biking. Apoxee connects to several other Wildlife Management Areas so is frequented by runners and cyclists. There is limited parking so at 7am on a Saturday at opening time you might have to go to the back loop to find a spot to park.

Just been here once. I went around one loop about 8 miles. I think I saw one Aligater in the water. One person I spoke with said they sun themselves on the trail in the winter. Nice ride but be careful. Everyone I met were nice too. I plan to go back for more.

There's nothing like a day spent in the sweltering heat of a south Florida nature park! The humidity is oppressive, the bugs are biting, and the water is murky. But, despite all of that, there's something so incredibly peaceful about being surrounded by nature, home to alligators, snakes, and a variety of birds. It's a great place to come for a picnic or a nature hike. Just be sure to bring your bug spray!

This entrance is frequently under water so enjoy it before rainy season arrives. Free admission, easy parking, hiking for all fitness levels, peaceful and scenic.

This is such a great trail and the perfect distance for kids and visitors. A very pretty natural area with easy parking, accesible trails and clear pathways. The only negative is that they are constantly closed due to flooding. I can’t tell you how many times we have gone for it just to be closed. Would love to see the trails fixed to make them more accesible throughout the year!

The trail is often flooded. Someday I will visit in dry season or they will complete the improvements for hikers and bikers.

One of my favorite places to cycle in the middle of nature, there are at least two parking lots available and several circuits.one of the best circuits near the water purification plant (or something like that) closes during the alligator breeding season and sometimes there are flooded areas, but there are other interesting circuits to go through. I recommend a lot of water, the circuits can be long and hot at times, nothing to buy nearby.for walking tours I strongly recommend parking near the water purification plant which is far from the main entrance.look the gps before leaving.there are maps that can help you recognize the circuits. I recommend taking one, they are usually found at the entrance of each trail. Is free.
