I thought my initial appointment with Dr. Atwal was great. He was pretty thorough and explained things well. He told me he suspected hypermobile EDS and ordered genetic testing to rule out other types. At my follow-up appointment (which cost $350), he just told me my testing was negative. When I asked about treatment, the only thing he told me was to exercise more even though I explained exercise intolerance is my worst symptom and that began when I was a dancer working out intensely 15+ hours a week so not exercising enough is definitely not the cause. I also found it a bit rude that when I asked about treatment for my POTS he just said that I'm not at a point that I need treatment, even though I haven't been able to work for a year and I haven't seen any improvement after doing the exercise regimen my cardiologist put me on for over a year and trying two beta blockers. He left the appointment after 10 minutes and did not even send any notes for my records.
I think it is worth scheduling an appointment with Dr. Atwal if you are having trouble getting a diagnosis, but I would not bother going for a follow-up or to get treatment advice.

Edit:
I revised my review due to the lab (Variantyx) which is absolutely HORRIBLE. I received no support from the Dr. 's office with the lab issues. My complaint reached the lab regional director, and it still took 9 months last year (2021) to get a result that reported no findings. A few months ago in 2022, Mayo Clinic diagnosed the answer to my medical problems which was a rare genetic disease. Given the excellent previous reviews, I expected more support while I was going back and forth with Variantyx and was deeply disappointed and upset with the colossal oversight by the lab.

Original review:
I would have given 5 stars because Dr Atwal is fantastic. He’s very nice, thorough, and answers questions with patience. Since he works outside of insurance he is unrestrained to order the testing he sees fit for his patients. His staff is also nice, professional, and responds quickly. BUT one of the labs he works with/refers patients to is a complete nightmare/mess! The “regional manager” for this lab lied to me multiple times and I’m still waiting for my results months after samples were submitted. I would expect more professionalism from the lab and unfortunately this reflects badly on the practice in my opinion.

Outstanding experience for diagnoses of EDS and other complications. I was able to confirm diagnosis and appropriate care decisions in moving forward. Dr. Atwal is good at making you feel valued and cared for. If you are considering if it's worth the expense, I felt it was worth my peace of mind to get appropriate guidance on what avenues are helpful and which are harmful. He speaks plainly and honestly, and I will continue to see him in the future when I need confirmation on treatment decisions.
