This gem in the forest was amazing! Cleanest pit toliets I ever saw, friendly hosts and volunteers, lots of wildlife and few campers. The 20 mile dirt road may keep folks out but made it great for us. A perfect forest campground!

Camped here twice, great campground and has some very private CHEAP camps. No running water or electric available, 20 mile limestone road, nothing but marsh, swamp, and wildlife. Only complaint is that you can hear the only highway around for miles from the camp. This is the perfect camp to get away

Very well spaced campsites. Picnic table, fire pit, and lantern post included.
We got campsite #2 and the picnic table has shade in the morning.
The drive here was long on a gravel road but the road was smooth for the most part. Only a few rutted and washboard sections.

Make sure you have plenty of mosquito deterrents on hand. The evening swarm is horrendous. From dusk through the night they are hungry. Came out in the morning and it was good. Only a few here and there.
Plenty of birds to watch.

Great little 'Hidden" Gem. It's only 2 hours from Coral Springs and even closer to Miami. It is primitive, but a good getaway if you don't mind driving 20-30 miles on unpaved roads. I have a Jeep so it had no problem with going a good speed, but be prepared for it to be a dust storm. Highly recommend for a fun camp in the "Everglades"

Somewhat private sites. Very quiet unless a big rig with a noisy generator parks beside you. I generally only pay for 2 nights so I can move to quieter location. Lots of 4WD roads to bicycle on. They want cash only now, don't know why. Clean outhouse. Trash dumpsters at entrance & first loop camping area. To my surprise some cell coverage!

Woke up this morning with frost on the ground January 31st of 2022. Plenty of foliage and wood to burn. Bathrooms are always fully stocked and clean. Too bad they don't have a hand pump for water. Lots of Oscar at the twin ponds.

I have been to many many nature trails, campsites all over Florida, but Bear Island is something apart. This is a completely remote area right in the hear of the Big Cypress, only the strong will have what it takes to spend the night as this is a primitive campsite, no drinkable water or electricity onsite.
The drive is amazing, about an hour on dirt road with beautiful views, vegetation changes every few minutes.
Hunting is challenging, but very fun, you have to get deep into the woods.

Great dry camping spot. Well maintained camp grounds and vault toilet. The only negative side is the 20 mile dirt road, very dusty and washboard most of the way.

Very primitive and mostly private. Well off the beaten path! 20 miles to anywhere! Gets busyier on weekends. Not everyone pays attentions to "tents only" and some RV's have pulled in and camped. Take EVERYTHING you need with you and don't forget to bring it ALL back out! There are restrooms but not showers. Bear boxes for food if you need them and plastic recycling and trash cans. Beautiful, very beautiful calm and peaceful! Not close to a beach per say but day trips are nice.

Love it hear. Big sites in a quiet setting with beautiful night skies. Well maintained grounds and outhouses. Not a complaint. Highly recommended! Bring your own water and wood. Plenty of kindling but few big branches to keep the fire going. Have fun!
