Big John's Alabama BBQ, Tampa FL

I’m not giving a bad review the place was clean the woman at the register was really nice but the food it has good flavor but when u think smoke I think fall off the bone rib and melt in yr mouth beef sausage was good pie was great chicken was a bit over cooked and for the money the serving was not it on the 3 meats 1 rib n it was 32 bucks konans n buba q I’ll stick with it’s ok just not for me cook them ribs longer thank you for the kind service.

Ordered from Uber eats food came in a good amount of time. Food tastes good. They forget a piece of my order. The rating is for them not answering the phone when I called a few times. Their customer service is nonexistent.

Definitely a great place to get food and roll out. It's not really a clean place to dine in.
I'm not much of a dine in person anyway.

On Monday 7-11-23 at approximately 3pm I purchased a slab of ribs from the restaurant and drove back home to Clearwater an hour away. The ribs were tough, over cooked, horrible and far from freshly cooked, seems like they were from the previous nights batch. I wish I had two more arms so I could give them 4 thumbs down

This BBQ is hands down some of the best in the Tampa area. The people are always friendly and greet you with a smile. It's worth the drive.

First time and everything was amazingly good! Very clean and the customer service is excellent! I came in with the intentions to get a to go order however the cleanness of the building had me change my mind so dinned in! And please try that Tea punch! This is a gold mind restaurant that deserves recognition!

Their Mac & Cheese, collard greens and sweet potato pie is ALWAYS delicious!
Experienced a slight delay in service due to being questioned for the service dog but the Manager cleared the air.

When I walked through the doors, the aromas gripped me in a savory hug! My stomach growled in anticipation. Spicy, sweet sauce teased my lips as the most delicious and moist grilled meats tickled my foodie soul. Ahhhh. I took one for the team, I did it for the culture.and was delighted and satiated. Simply put, YUM!

Had two meats and two sides. Outstanding Ribs, tender and juicy chicken, baked beans were fire and the potato salad was great.

Didn’t have pulled pork when I visited. Instead I got the chopped beef dinner but that was a mistake, as it had a ton of chewy chunks in it which were inedible. If it were one or two that would be okay but this was inedible chunks in every bite. It was a pain trying to eat lunch. Collard greens were exceptional and Mac n cheese were ok. The sauces are pretty good but nothing to write home about.
For $15 after tax and before tip I expect edible meat

Large Servings, but Too Much Salt

We were hankering for barbecue and happened to be near Big John’s, where we’ve never eaten before.

The atmosphere is spare…typical barbecue joint. Staff members were all pleasant and helpful. You order at the counter and come get the food when your number is called. Servings are generous and prices are fair.

The ribs were too salty. But once past the outer part, the interior of the ribs were very good. The chicken was quite tasty. The collards were too salty. The cole slaw was typical buy-in-a-big-jug-from-Costco, so OK but a bit bland—a little vinegar would have elevated it. Their barbecue sauce was too sour for us.

We had a lot to take home and we’ll find a way to modify everything enough so that we’ll enjoy it.

I doubt that I'll go back.

This is THE place for BBQ in Tampa! Big John's has been smoking meats for as long as I can remember. Originally located in a smaller building, the new place is a great place to meet new people because it's a neighborhood landmark. The meats are always juicey, and the sides remind me of my family's cooking. Collards, Mac n Cheese are my usual sides, but they have plenty more to choose from. Every meal is.ade with love, and that's why I love Big John's.

Big John i thought this was the place for me being that I'm from Pensacola Big John Ala very close to home I'm thinking this going to be the best barbecue ive had in a long time well Big John you disappointed me with your ribs nothing like i expected

Don't like the barbecue sauce it smells good from the street but it tastes like ketchup it's not as good like it used to be years ago

It's just not like it was back in the day now it's overpriced under taste I need $3 for 2 oz of coleslaw that's just over and that was the second time I've been in there since they rebuilt the place

Serving cheap nasty ribs with all that fat and greasy and overcooked! Terrible-just terrible! I will never return, and the bbq sauce just nasty unreal never again…!

Great Barbecue, friendly staff. Service was also great. Both my wife & I ordered the bbq pork sandwich. It was fantastic. I would highly recommend eating here. I definitely will be back.
