Blue Heaven, Key West FL

I am writing this to help someone not spend $150 for a dinner that is not worth the hype.

Blue heaven has been on my list to go to whenever we visited and we finally had the chance to get in and was disappointed.

The atmosphere was great, no complaints there. It’s like a cozy backyard set up, with lights and a stage for music. Service was great as well. The disappointment was with the food and cocktails.

We got there around 6PM on a Friday night. We ordered a Tito’s spritz and a Rum Milk Punch. Both drinks were too sweet and the milk punch was oddly warm.

We skipped appetizers bc weren’t that hungry and ordered our entrees. I had the grouper special - chipotle cream sauce white rice and cauliflower. Grouper was overcooked, cauliflower was under cooked. Not seasoned well, it was actually very bland. My husband ordered the Jerk Chicken that came with rice, corn, black beans and a slice of corn bread. He described the meal as muted with the biggest disappointment was his corn bread. It was a slice of pound cake without a trace of corn taste.

I’m happy we finally got to try it, but I think this was a lesson to not fall for the tourist traps and stick to the off the beaten path restaurants.

The bartender and mimosas were good. I ordered shrimp and grits, although they were not worth it. The grits had no flavor and the shrimp was overcooked. My wife ordered an omelet. She said the omelet was fine with the exception of the burnt toast. Overall it was ok. May come another time and try something different from the menu.

We had high expectations for Blue Heaven, but unfortunately, the experience fell short. The food, especially the key lime pie, was disappointingly bland, lacking the expected burst of flavors. It’s disheartening when anticipation doesn’t meet reality. Not recommended for those seeking a vibrant culinary experience.

If you don’t want to spend $6 on a bottle of nasty water, get tap water. They’ll offer water but won’t tell you that you have to pay for it. Food is less than mediocre, over-priced and cold upon arrival. Plenty of other options in key west. The building where they prepare your food smells like urine and trash when walking past it. Waitress was ridiculously rude to my mother which ruined dinner. I still tipped because, at minimum, she did her job. However she was extremely cold, not attentive at all, and clearly showed disrespect toward me and my family. I wouldn’t come back here if someone paid me. Please spend your money elsewhere.

Food was ok, not a lot of flavor in shrimp and grits or fish sandwich. Potatoes are good, pancakes were OK. 45 min wait without reservations on Friday at 11am, 30 min wait on food after ordering. Not a bad place but better places with less wait nearby

The idea of spending $80 on a surf and turf benedict with overcooked lobster (steak was good), breakfast sandwich, side of tatties and a key lime pie that's been kept in the fridge too long so the crumb was mushy and the burnt merengue was rubbery was almost ok because ' you're in key west. '
Then I got a glimpse into the kitchen area whilst I went to the toilet and saw at least two dishes of cat food peppered across the floor. Not nice.

Way too overpriced for what you get and the corners they cut to keep all menu items available at all times.

Atmosphere was fantastic! Went for Sunday brunch. Just 2 of us. We sat at the bar and avoided the hour and 30 min wait (make reservations). Servers were super nice! However, the kitchen forgot to make my wife’s food. I got mine and ate some but then waited for her food to come out. The eggs weren’t seasoned at all. Added salt, pepper, and hot sauce and it was good. Loved the chickens roaming. I’m not generally a fan of live music at breakfast places, but really enjoyed the performers. Added to the ambiance for sure.

Quirky and fun - which means they *could* get away with serving mediocre food - but they don't! Delicious food, large portions, fast service (without pushing you out of the place) - love Blue Heaven!

This is a must go! We have been coming to Blue Heaven for years and are impressed every visit! Dinner and Breakfast are both incredible. Highly recommend the banana bread, key lime pie, and fresh seafood specials!

Blue Heaven lived up to the positive recommendations I'd received. I was waiting in line when it opened, so was able to get a seat at the bar right away. Chickens and interesting scenery kept my attention while I waited for my BLT (bacon, lobster, and tomato Benedict). They did not put the hollandaise sauce on the side as I asked, but it was still delicious. I would definitely go again to try other selections and will recommend this Key West haven to others.

My husband and I stopped in for dinner tonight, our server Tracey was amazing as were the food, cocktails and ambiance. Highly recommend

Great atmosphere, music was awesome. Long waiting time on Sundays. Food was good but a little above average for the place.

The wait time was RIDICULOUS. Never again. Over 2 hours waiting to be seated for breakfast food? Cmon! That said, our server was excellent, and the food was almost good enough to overcome the wait (it was really good).
