Blue Hole Observation Platform reviews
14 We visited this spot on Big Pine after driving most of the way down the keys from South Miami. I can confirm Big Pine is a great area to see the deer, especially around sunset, and the blue hole seems to have a couple of resident gators at the moment, as well as some turtles, fish, and most importantly, when we visited there was a wonderful lady there ready to tell you anything you wanted to know about the local wildlife, and things you didn't realise you wanted to know too! She had a scope set up and invited visitors to look at the things she'd spotted.
The name "blue hole" might lead you to think it is actually blue, and a hole, but it's a fresh water pond, the only one in the keys. It's probably a tops 45 minute stop to have a look around and see what's out, but you'll almost definitely see something and it's nice that whatever you do see are purely wild animals.
Interesting history but off the beaten track. Wasn't impressed with the whole area, no bathrooms or picnic area.kinda disappointing for a "tourist attraction"
The area itself feels very nice and serene looking over the pond with gators, birds, fish and turtles. The drive to it was a bit annoying for it was quite out of the way of anything and you have to drive very slowly because of the deer in the area. It doesnt have any restrooms or picknick area's foe you are not allowed to eat or drink there incase people want to feed the wildlife. The gators will chill near the overlook area when they see you (because people probably feed them). We couldnt do half of the walk because it was closed off so you dont disturb the birds. On the way there we had a key deer check out the car seeing if it could score some food. All by all a pretty cool place to check out.
Great easy shirt hike. Blue hole had alligators and tarpon. We were very lucky to see a Key Deer from the side of the road.
What a great spot! Seems like it could be touch or go location for actually spotting something but we got lucky while we were there. Had to use the viewer!
Small pond but so much to see! We were lucky enough to see an alligator! I will definitely go back!
Blue Hole located in the Key Deer Refuge Big Pine Key, Florida Keys.
Only fresh water body of water in the keys. Very quiet area. Only 1 minute from roadside parking. If you like nature, this is a beautiful place. 5
minute drive from US 1.
Great little spot to come and see some nature and go for a walk. Every time we come to the Keys we come for a visit.
It is not what you expect.but life is what you make it. I did see croc and a deer.but def would suggest good shoes and pants the trails are rocky
Amazing Lil spot saw an alligator! A large iguana, a large snook, and several key deer definitely stop & check it out
Not too much to see other than a lot of birds around the blue hole. Many Green herons and various buzzards and pelicans.
We didn't get to see any alligators, but we seen fish and plenty of Key Deer. There's a nice little walking trail also!
Very tranquil…saw beautiful birds and fish…no gators that day.the attendant there was happy to let us know what was hanging out at the hole!
